The House of Nenci (formally styled The Noble and Most Ancient House of Nenci) is an aristocratic family and branch of the House of Renaux founded by Jerome de Nenci (né of Renaux) [some genealogists argue the House was technically founded by the first Dux of Renaux, William, but the Lord King of Arms agrees that the de Nencis per se were founded when Jerome changed his surname to Nenci], the eldest son of the 10th Duke of Renaux who was created Viscount of Nenci in 1326 by King Henry II of the House of Spheria, making them one of the oldest known aristocratic families in Ferrodwiyin, with the first Renaux being recorded sometime between the 7th and 8th Centuries. The Nencis (who from 880 to 1326 went by of Renaux) have been part of the Nobility since 1150, when Renaux was annexed to Ferrodwiyin and granted to the formerly ruling family as a fiefdom. The senior line, as well as holding the Dukedom of Renaux, holds the Great Marshalship of Ferrodwiyin, the Marquessates of Olvum, St Alexander Lautrec, and Trounville, the Countships of Holdorff, Mercis, and Renaux, the Viscountcies of Nenci and Vizcaya, the Baronies of Whitebourne, St Michael in Olvum, Jaloma, and Nenci, a Lordship in Ferrod, and the Lordship of Hounbryn, among others. The first title to be bestowed upon them was that of Duke of Renaux, which has stayed in that line of the family since its creation in 1150.

Titles and Branches

There have been several notable cadet branches; those existing to this day are, in order of genealogical seniority:

  • the Barons of Houghtonbrooke (1985 creation) descend from the third son of the 28th Duke;
  • the Marquesses of Loi-Bron (1915 creation) descend from the second daughter of the 26th Duke. Holders of the titles Count of Romardya and Viscount Marm;
  • the Counts of Wenstim (1728 creation) descend from the younger son of the 22nd Duke. Holders of the titles Viscount of Ordium and Lord of Britir;
  • the Dukes of Ethias (1583 creation) descend from the fourth son of the 12th Duke. Holders of the titles Marquess of Lucagica, Count of Sarevini, Viscount Crawley, Visocunt of Cyprianur, and Baron of Nubaland

Throughout much of Ferrodwiyin's story, the Nencis have played an important role. Since their beginning, they have occupied important roles at court and the government, being Viceroys of Keralis from the office's installation in 1437 to 1913, when the 32nd Duke of Renaux gave up the position in favour of his godson the Viscount of Krainmon.

As one of the most prominent noble families and former rulers of their own territory, the Nencis were granted status equal to the Sovereign's family in 1535, when Ernest IV published the Ernestine laws regulating the marriages, titles, and styles in the House of Sirene. Because of this, many members of the Nenci family have married into royalty since the proclamation of the Laws, the first being the 20th Duke when he married HRH The Princess Jeanine.

Patrilineally, Emperor Alexander descends from the 2nd, 10th, 16th, and 25th Dukes, while matrilineally he descends from all Dukes as the son of the 34th Duchess. His consort, Empress Mary, descends matrilineally from all Dukes as the daughter of the second daughter and third child of the 33rd Duke.
