Overview
The Green Republic of Storalia is a massive, efficient nation, renowned for its national health service, rampant corporate plagiarism, and devotion to social welfare. The compassionate, democratic population of 195.1 million Storalians love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.
The government — a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, socially-minded morass — juggles the competing demands of Education, Environment, and Welfare. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Storalisburg. The average income tax rate is 86.7%, and even higher for the wealthy.
The very strong Storalian economy, worth 165 trillion Stora Pounds a year, is highly specialized and mostly made up of the Tourism industry, with significant contributions from Book Publishing. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is 67,565 Stora Pounds, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens. The country also has one of the best funded education systems in the ISSU.
Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Storalia's national animal is the Dragon, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies.
Regional Politics
Storalia is widely regarded as the pushover of the ISSU, as it is one of the weakest nations in the region, with little to no powerful allies. It also has the misfortune to be surrounded by four much stronger nations, two of which have shown interest in Storalian lands. The Storalian Government has, however, began to work on a plan to strengthen the Storalian military and improve relations with neighboring nations, especially the Grand Russian Federation. So far, Storalia has narrowly been able to keep itself neutral when it comes to regional wars.
The Storalian Parliament has also expressed intention to run for the position of Foreign Affairs and Immigration in the next election, which occurs in roughly three months. However, most of the other nations in the region believe that the ideology of the Storalian Government is not aggressive enough to run for a regional position. While they were unable to win the position of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, they were able to secure the spot of WA Delegate.
History
Storalia started out as group of Barbarian tribes in what is now Danzig after gaining independence from Pomerania. (WIP)
