The opening and closing ceremonies, the athletic and the rugby sevens events were held at Wembley Stadium. The decision to host the very first games in London was unanimous due to no other nations wanting to host and new nation Central Shaneville's bid being withdrawn from the bidding. At the games closing ceremony the games were announced to be every other year and the results of the bidding process for the 2004 Games were announced as well as the host city for the 2002 Games.
