The 2015 Aṭavī Siege was an attack on the Tocygauana Market in the city of Aṭavī, Narsora, a suburb of Manzulo on May 4, 2015. The attack was carried out by four members of the FMIGI, a militant pro-independence movement based in the Torisakian territory of González Isle. The group took 13 people hostage for two hours until security forces stormed the market and killed three out of the four perpetrators.

Attack

The siege began on May 4th, 2015 at 11:30 AM when four members of the Federation for the Movement of Independence of Gonzalez Isle attacked a market in the city of Aṭavī, Narsora and took 13 people hostage. The militant's demand was for the narsoran government to recognize González Isle as an sovereign entity. During the standoff three people were killed after trying to escape through a back exit. Over two hours into the siege a decision was made to storm the market and end the siege.

Police Action

Over two hours into the siege, security forces made a decision to storm the market. 12 members of the elite Special Intervention Unit counter-terrorism group stormed the market killing three of the four militants and taking the fourth, Rafael San Rubio into custody after shooting him in the leg.

Aftermath

In the aftermath of the attack narsoran president Sandalio Joaquín Espina condemned the attack, and the government is considering taking action against the group. 29-year old Rafael Rubio, the surviving suspect was extradited to Torisakia two weeks after the attack aboard a Torisakian Air Force helicopter due to the risk of letting him aboard a commercial airliner. A 23-day state of emergency was declared in the city of Aṭavī following the attack.
