Promotion and relegation plans

The league announced towards the end of the year that they would be expanding the current division to 14 teams, as well as adding a 12 team lower division by 2021. The President of the Greater Tasmania Football League has confirmed that there will be at least one new city entering a team into the first tier from The Island Formerly Known As Tasmania in order to help compensate numbers.

He has also announced that the majority of the new teams will come from other nations that will join the Greater Tasmania region in the near future and announced that an administrative relegation of teams from The Island Formerly Known As Tasmania may take place in order to achieve equality.

New city

It has not been confirmed by the league which city or cities will be entering teams, although the franchises have been completed and only need players and some staff. The city most likely to enter a team is Strahan, with other likely candidates Queenstown, Smithton and Scottsdale. It is entirely feasible that a team will come from each of these cities, however that currently remains unknown.

Tournaments and pre-season

The President of the league was interviewed at the beginning of the season and he announced that there is no intention of adding a pre-season tournament or finals series at any stage.

They also believe that a tournament running during the course of the season will only be added when "the time is right", sparking early rumours of a second league.
