The IX Olympic Winter Games were an international multi-sport event held in the city of Arçon, the fourth-largest city of Saugeais and one of the country's oldest cities. They were the ninth winter edition of the Olympic Games. The competing athletes represented 111 national Olympic committees, or 120 when components of combined delegations are included.
The Games were officially opened by Thomas Bouvier, President of the Republic of Saugeais, at the opening ceremony held in Arrowpoint Place stadium, which was renovated ahead of the Olympics. The cauldron was lit by the members of Saugeais's gold-medal winning 4x100m freestyle relay swimming team, Keefe Layton, Damion Winfield, Windsor Lacey, Dezi Macy, and Cammie Oliver.
Remarkably, this was not only the first time Saugeais hosted the Olympics, but the first time it entered a delegation in the Winter Olympics, after participating in three previous Summer Olympics. Nonetheless, Saugeais athletes won a total of 13 medals, three of them gold.
