The Fascist Theocracy of Altius is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Edward Kratz III with an iron fist, and renowned for its parental licensing program. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 3.48 billion Altians are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Religion & Spirituality. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Ribeirão Preto. The average income tax rate is 99%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.
Legions of police officers force people to move into massive urban apartments, manual labourers must be willing to have cybernetic limbs to get a job, cremation is compulsory for the deceased, and a government program is underway to revitalize Altius's beaches. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Altius's national animal is the Narwhal, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to heavy metals seepage into national waterways, its national religion is Lutheranism, and its currency is the Cruzeiro.
