André Marchais (born 1950) is a Braslander businessman and entrepreneur. He has one of the main fortunes of Brasland.

Career

From an early age he started working for his father's business, a small real estate company. After finishing school, he spent two semesters in college but dropped out, feeling he was not learning anything useful. He focused on the family business, and for fifteen years he expanded it, becoming one of the largest owners of real estate owners in the Arenland. After the fall of the monarchy in 1994, Marchais began to invest heavily in real estate abroad, establishing new offices in New Chalcedon. In 1997, he and his family moved to that country and the international headquarters of Marchais Group were established in Constantinopolis Secundus. Many of his properties in Brasland were confiscated by the Palmerson administration.

Marchais was a vocal opponent to the republican regime and generously funded the opposition and the dissidents. Along with Princess Alexandra, he arranged deals to transport weapons to the rebels in southern Brasland. This was very important to preserve that area of Brasland under Larissa Henslen's rule. However, his efforts also came at a cost: his eldest son died during the 2008 confrontation between General Domenik's troops and the rebels.

In 2010 the Marchais family returned to Brasland, although André keeps travelling between Halvan and Constantinopolis Secundus. Only in 2014 the company's headquearters were relocated to Halvan.

In 2011 he was created Baron de Marchais. He never uses the title, though.

In 2013 he was appointed Knight of the Order of St Nicholas.

Personal life

In 1979 he married Amande de Soyes. They have eight children: Pierre (1980-2008), Jacqueline (born 1981), Diane (born 1983), André (born 1985), Foulques (born 1988), Françoise (born 1991), Ghislaine (born and died 1993) and Léonie (born 1997).

The family lives at a large but discreet mansion in Halvan. In 2010, the Marchais couple started building a grand countryside home of neoclassical style. The residence is surrounded by an enormous natural park which serves to protect their privacy and also as a natural reserve and hunting ground.
