History

The Arcadian Riding School was founded in 1551 by Emperor Eric II of Diadochia and is the oldest Riding School in Diadochia. In 1550s the Riding School used a wooden riding arena, but by Eric III of Diadochia' reign the wooden arena was seen as unfit, so the emperor commissioned the Imperial Court architect to build the white riding hall used today.

Many lavish court events have been held here the most notable being the Imperial Court Ladies'Carousel of 1765. On 5 February 1765, the Empress Zoe II of Diadochia hosted a celebration in the Imperial Winter Riding School of the Atlantis Imperial Palace to mark the retaking of Pella. This included a ‘Imperial Court Ladies’ Carousel’: the empress led the first mounted quadrille. The carriages were driven by cavaliers, and the ladies had to lunge with a sword at models of Turks’ heads made of papier mâché impaled on poles. The captured head of an enemy had always played an important role in the wars between the Diadochian and Turkish empires. This sport was a popular courtly diversion in Atlantis, especially during the seventeenth century, and it has survived as an amusement among the common people to this day.

After the event Empress Zoe II drove in Procession together with a number of other participating ladies in the carousel carriages, so that the Atlantean populace could admire the festive company.

The Arcadian Riding School was named for the Arcadian horses that formed one of the bases of the types of horses which are used exclusively at the school. Today the horses delivered to the Arcadian Riding School are bred at the Tropaia Imperial Stud located near the village of Tropaia in central Arcadia, Diadochia.
