The Asuran Revolutionary Wars (1781-1812) were a series of major conflicts pitting the Empire of Lhedronna, led by Sadaledd I against the reactionary powers of Asura. They revolutionised Asuran warfare, with the modernisation of military tactics and the implementation of mass conscription on a scale never before seen. The wars broke out at the end of the Lhedwin Revolution, leading to the overthrow and exile of Dâriledd II, who was replaced by his brother Sadaledd ar Ludas, who promised to unify the haemorrhaging realm of Lhedronna into a truly unified modern Asuran state. Although the revolutionary alliance earned early victories, the Lhedronna dominion collapsed rapidly after the intervention of Delsola and the defection of Dolorem to the reactionary alliance. The Lhedronna Empire was decisively beaten at the Battle of Hausen, with Sadaledd I ultimately surrendering during the Siege of Lhudas.

Background

Prior to the Asuran Revolutionary Wars, the Empire of Lhedronna had been a fairly disunited state, gradually ceding autonomy to its constituent principalities and Kingdoms. Although nominally the Emperor of Lhedronna was still head of state and controller of much of the royal demesne around Lhudas, the various constituent members of the Empire held a great deal of autonomy. Much of this autonomy came from the Lhedronna Religious Wars, with member states having a great deal of independence in matters of religion and military and diplomatic affairs.

However the onset of the Asuran enlightenment saw regionalist and nationalist movements gain momentum within Lhedronna. Recent military defeats at the hands of Pandirossa had seen large swathes of Galysar and Rakhakhmartakh ceded to the Eastern Empire, whilst financial mismanagement and costly wars had seen the crown near bankruptcy. Without a unified structure to maintain the empire many saw it doomed to fail and so sought to establish a newly unified Empire of Lhedronna. Many intellectuals throughout the region began seeing themselves not as 'Azgaardti' or 'Galysaran' but as 'Lhedd', with notable writers and philosophers pointing out the joint heritage of the Lhedronnan regions, calling for a codified 'Lhedronnan language' uniting all of the Satto-Lhedh languages into one and a more centralised governmental structure centred on the Imperial capital of Lhudas.

Despite popular sentiment for a more unified state among the higher classes of Lhedronnan society, Emperor Dâriledd II was quick to distance himself from such reform, for fear of alienating more powerful autonomous regions of the Empire, such as Brytonia and Niattirb, who held strong regional identities, and religious differences. With the Emperor refusing to reform the Empire, many more radical revolutionaries took to the streets to voice their discontent against what they saw as an increasingly anachronistic monarchy and Empire.

Prelude

The Student Rebellion

In May of 1779 students at the University of Lhudas revolted taking to the streets to denounce Emperor Dâriledd II. Riots soon erupted within Lhudas Square, with revolutionaries occupying the town hall. There the revolutionaries were joined by key political leaders and thinkers, along with brother to the Emperor, Sadaledd ar Ludas. Together they signed the Declaration of Lhudas, committing to the cause of a unified Lhedronna. The revolutionaries sought to see Dâriledd II abdicate in favour of his brother Sadaledd, allowing the revolutionaries to take control of the Empire. Above the hall the revolutionaries unveiled a flag emblazoned with the colours of the Empire, but in the cross of a region of the Empire, symbolising their desire to create a more unified Lhedronna.

With riots erupting throughout the Imperial capital, Dâriledd sent the Imperial Army to calm the situation, but this only escalated tensions, with rioters massing toward the Imperial Palace and many members of the Guard defecting to the cause of the revolutionaries. Soon the revolutionaries were within the gates of the palace, demanding the Emperor abdicate. With little other option, the Emperor agreed, placing himself in the custody of the revolutionaries.

Overthrow of Dâriledd II

With the Emperor in the hands of the revolutionaries, Sadaledd I was crowned Emperor of Lhedronna, although this was not acknowledged by any member of the Empire until at least 1781. A new administration was created to increase the efficiency of the royal demesne, whilst the military was outfitted with improved weaponry and supplies. The new administration adopted a new Constitution, complete with a declaration of citizens' rights, based on the Vrnallian Model, detailing extensive rights given to every citizen of the Empire. However the former Emperor Dâriledd II managed to escape incognito to neighbouring Brytonia, calling on reigning King Psudafte IV to do all in his power to restore order to the Empire, in exchange for various privileges and rights.

Although the Brytonian King sent the Third Army to restore order to the capital, the Revolutionary Armies repelled the invaders, declaring Mass Levy, conscripting every able bodied man into the Lhedronnan army. With the Brytonian invasion repelled, a coalition of Brytonia, Valenia and Pandirossa was established to quash the revolution and return the status-quo.
