Overview

The Sovereign Hegemony of Auracexia, is an interstellar empire located in the constellation of Lyra within the Orion Spur of the Milky Way in the Alpha Quadrant ~1,200 light years (840,000,000,000 miles) from Sol (the Sun), in the Solar System. The Sovereign Hegemony consists of twelve star systems: the Aoraqet Trinity, Azean, Cerelléan, Praxian, Lugastine, Thesalléan, Axionian, Föergan, Fersonni, Mordanyac, Acteani, and Amarysan with the latter being a pre-main sequence star; containing fifty planets of which there are sixteen Terran planets, eleven desert planets, nine oceanic planets, four ice planets, eight Jovian planets and two dwarf planets.

History

Originally a space-faring merchant culture, the Aoraqet have expanded across a small sector of the Orion Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy in search of other worlds, eventually discovering eleven star systems and forty-nine other planets within the Aoraqet galactic cluster

Exogenesis/Abiogenesis

The Lyr’Davni originated from organic matter deposited on the impact of a meteorite several hundred thousands of years ago that created the large inland sea on Lyr’Davni Prime (now called Auracexia Prime), said meteorite brought sufficient organic material from the nether regions of space and upon impact not only shifted the alignment of the planet, but also altered the atmospheric composition miraculously making the planet ecologically sustainable for life.

The evolutionary history of the Lyr’Davni parallels that of their human counterparts on Earth save for their extreme longevity; throughout the millennia the race, then calling itself the Lyr’Davni (‘the Ancients’) evolved into a highly cognitive species, mastering early forms of technology until the species spanned every landmass on the planet. Quickly adapting to their environment, their technological prowess advanced in leaps and bounds not comparatively to their human counterparts as the advancements in technology were not fueled by war amongst themselves which eventually gave rise to space flight.

The Era of Space Travel

Once the Lyr’Davni mastered space travel, they began exploring the environs of their star system and discovered another planet in their system sustainable of life, Lyr’Davni Minor, as well as four other planets.

Naming the planet Lyr’Davni Minor, they quickly colonized and the population flourished, spanning every landmass in massive sprawling cities within decades. Upon further exploration, four new planets were discovered but were deemed unsustainable for life. The Lyr’Davni Human civilization took turn in the late part of the 21st millennium BCE. After fighting a series of violent wars on various planets in the name of establishing a grand star empire, violence among humans began to experience a decline that continued well through the chaos of the collapse of its governments. Overall, the curve still continued until The Last War came – Lyr’Davni’s humans were less violent than they have been in the past. In the middle part of the 21st millennium BCE, humans found a way to defeat death temporarily and stopped some forms of death all together, along with effective rejuvenation techniques. By the late part of the 21st millennium BCE, humanity had defeated biological death all together. Humanity is notable for having been the only species to have eradicated numerous viruses which plagued the planet - smallpox was their first victim, followed by rinderpest, then polio. Other diseases are extinct as well - syphilis, malaria, measles, pertussis (whooping cough), gonorrhea, meningitis, hepatitis, and eventually, HIV/AIDs were exterminated. Despite this, it's an ongoing war between newer diseases that emerge - especially scary when these diseases contain plasmids that aren't from Lyr’Davni - and the science that eventually drives them extinct.

By around 21,200, humanity had grasped a firm enough command over its genetic code to allow for manipulation that would eventually lead to the development of clades. This genetic manipulation was embraced by some and shunned by others; the last large cultural divide in the human sphere, beyond the acceptance of hyper-corporate transitional economies or new, post-scarcity economies, is whether or not to accept these new technologies. Most of humanity accepts them with some trepidation about newer technologies, while others either embrace them completely, indulging in morphological changes on a whim, and others shun it, and the medical technology that defeated death, completely.

The Last War

During an unprecedented period of peace, hostilities began with the Z’surani, a reptilian race in a neighboring star system. The Z’surani struck the Lyr’Davni home world with blinding speed, inflicting massive casualties within the span of just hours, catching the populace unprepared, millions of Aoraqet died within the first day of hostilities before the government, in desperation called for the creation of weapons that could be used to at least repulse the attackers and drive them from their world. Working in secret, a number of weapons were constructed and with vigorous testing on captured Z’surani, these weapons were developed and entered into mass production, and the warrior caste of Lyr’Davni was born. Although numerically outmatched from the outset of the conflict, the Lyr’Davni began retrofitting several of their merchant ships into crude warships and began to push the Z’surani out of their star system, becoming the turning point in the war.

While the Lyr’Davni-Z’surani War raged on outside the system, the Lyr’Davni managed to produce vast amounts of warships and began to push the Z’surani back, finally forcing their retreat into their own system, believing that once enough Z’surani forces were destroyed they could sue for peace from a position of military strength. Enjoying their military successes after having suffered the Z’surani initial attack, the Lyr’Davni forced the retreat of the Z’surani onto their core world. At this point Auracexian historians remember this as the day of not only of the Z’surani defeat, but also the day that the Aoraqet race was born. On 20 Paenyr-met during the 763rd year of the Last Era (equiv. to November 3, 21,208 BCE) the Z’surani were defeated, on their home world of Z’surana. During the final battle before their eventual defeat a retrovirus was unleashed, colloquially known among the Lyr’Davni as the Z’surani Curse, infecting every Lyr’Davni warrior it came into contact with. While exhibiting no known symptoms, the Lyr’Davni warriors pushed on, finally forcing the surrender of the Z’surani.

The Great Dying/The End of the Lyr’Davni Civilization

Returning home after years of conflict, the virus spread further among the populace on the Lyr’Davni worlds virtually undetected. In the decades since the end of the Lyr’Davni-Z’surani War, the nation retained its military though maintaining it merely for defensive purposes, establishing a series of bases and beacons through their star system to provide an advanced warning system in the event another incident. As the bulk of the populace rebuilt and resumed their peaceful existences, the virus had slowly at first begun to attack the reproductive system of the males, causing rapid atrophy of the Y chromosome.

Within years the effects of the virus could be seen as the birth rate throughout the worlds of the Lyr’Davni declined sharply, fewer new births were happening in comparison with the death rate. While the Lyr’Davni life span was quite prodigious as they could live for a millennia and a half to two millennia, the fact that the daily death rate wasn’t being offset by new births became a troubling matter.

During the First year of The Great Dying (equiv. to the year 21,209 BCE) the government of the Lyr’Davni called together the greatest minds of their many worlds to find a solution to counter the effects of the Z’surani Curse. Beginning their work in haste the scientific community raced to find a solution, spending decades, centuries and vast resources in attempting to combat their declining numbers.

Thousands of years passed as the population among the Lyr’Davni core worlds declined to a mere fraction of its former glory. Before long, the females of the Lyr’Davni had become the majority among the population with the males being venerated as the last remaining vestige of the Lyr’Davni days of glory.

As the population continued to dwindle, a team of scientists inevitably came to the conclusion, that insofar there had been no medical cure that could be created to remedy The Z’surani Curse, turning to genetics, these scientists had begun to experiment using their own genetic material. Using various cultures from species encountered throughout the galaxies they’d traversed these scientists turned to genetic hybridization and genetic engineering. Eventually, through trial and error these same scientists were able to achieve a perfect genetic composition by which it was determined had the capacity to breed.

Informing the government, the leadership, now predominantly female were abhorred at the prospect; however facing the grim reality of the alternatives after years of lengthy consideration, finally conceded knowing it would mean the end of Lyr’Davni civilization, and required every eligible female throughout the Lyr’Davni worlds to participate in the program. Initially through in vitro fertilization, the program was considered a resounding success as every last one had become successfully pregnant with child. It was at this time Lyr’Davni historians had begun writing the epilogue of their civilization.

The Dawn of the Aoraqet

Finally in what is now called the Last Year of The Great Dying (equiv. to 16,208 BCE) the first women who had undergone the fertilization procedure gave birth, initially happy after five millennia of zero births throughout the Lyr’Davni worlds that new life had been brought into their star system were brought to the realization that their children were of an entirely new species, while humanoid these children displayed traits that were uncharacteristic of the Lyr’Davni race. Vibrant hair and eye colour, a naturally medium-tan to olive skin complexion and an increasingly exponential development in intelligence. Among other readily discernible characteristics, every last child was born female, and all of them with a set of retractable tactile organs (tentacles) between their shoulder blades, the most identifiable trait being that of a retractable tactile organ near their genitalia.

Initially abhorred under the belief that the presence of this second organ was a birth defect; most women kept quiet regarding the subject. Only after the reassurance from the scientific community that the presence of this second organ was intentional, were the women of Auracexia able to put their minds at ease. After the initial shock regarding the physiology of their newborn children, the women continued to have more children finally proud that extinction had been avoided and the core world had begun to experience positive population growth.

After the last of the Lyr’Davni who had formed the nucleus of Auracexia’s government died, a new government was established with the eldest Auracexian female at its head. With this new matriarchy established, on 1 Athyr-met, during the 1st year of the 1st Era After The Great Dying (equiv to March, 15 16,207 BCE) the position of Prime Archon was created and Grand Dame Xeteriana Navras Del'ya Ravyn'na-A'stra'eva became proclaimed as the Dévnostraéva (Prime Archon) of the Sovereign Hegemony of Auracexia, with her wife Xuxiah Dur'en Selene Ravyn'na-A'stra'eva proclaimed as Dévnostraéva-Saéret (Prime Archoness) of the Sovereign Hegemony of Auracexia.

With the increase in births the population of the planet exploded from the scant number of mere millions to 1.26 billion inside the span of three decades. As the last generation of Lyr’Davni finally died, the new breed of Auracexian women had begun to reach maturity and sometime around 16,167 BCE these women began breeding with one another and the second generations of Auracexians were born increasing the population of Auracexia by threefold.

With the population rate and birth rate both on the rise, the empire finally turned its attention toward a small backwater colony of theirs near the periphery of their empire named Qhe’thon’a (Earth) in search of the Lyr’Davni humans who had colonized the world in millennia past in the hopes of bringing enough males back to the core world to attempt the siring of a male Auracexian child.

Geography

The Sovereign Hegemony of Auracexia is composed of sixteen Terran planets, eleven desert planets, nine ocean planets, four ice planets, eight Jovian planets divided between gas giants and ice giants and two dwarf planets totalling fifty planets. As with the sheer size of the Sovereign Hegemony of Auracexia, the nation's population of 7,780,163,860 citizens, which in the terms of Earth-bound nation-states, would make it one of the largest nations on Earth by population, straddling fifty planets in some of the most diverse astrographical areas of the galaxy with climates ranging from arctic tundra to deserts and plains to lush tropical jungles, and vast oceanic worlds.

Location

The entirety of the Sovereign Hegemony of Auracexia lies within the Orion Spur of the Alpha Quadrant.

Climate

On the Terran planets and desert planets the prevalent climatology is that of the polar climate; icecaps, permafrost, glaciers, icebergs, between the 90ºN to 60ºN and 60ºS to 90ºS latitudes. Subarctic climate north above the 60ºN and south below the 60ºS latitudes, Humid continental and semi-arctic between the 60ºN to 45ºN and 45ºS to 60ºS latitudes with some winter conditions in the fall-winter seasons and spring-like conditions in the spring-summer seasons. Between the 40ºN to 15ºN and 15ºS to 40ºS latitudes, much of the areas are predominantly humid subtropical, marine, semi arid to arid, with large areas of temperate grasslands, savannas, and shrublands predominantly found in large river basins fed by rivers, lakes, reservoirs, estuaries, wetlands, seas and oceans with these being less likely on desert planets. Tropical wet and tropical dry climates between 15ºN and 15ºS latitudes, with the tropical wet climate being more prevalent near the equatorial regions.

The ocean planets predominately have similar climates as that of terran and desert planets, though the oceans on such planets would be hundreds of kilometers deep, much deeper than the oceans of Earth. The immense pressures in the lower regions of these oceans could lead to the formation of a mantle of exotic forms of ice. This ice would not necessarily be as cold as conventional ice. If the planet is close enough to its star that the water reaches its boiling point, the water will become supercritical and lack a well-defined surface. Even on cooler water-dominated planets, the atmosphere can be much thicker than that of Earth, and composed largely of water vapor, producing a very strong greenhouse effect.

Smaller ocean planets would have less dense atmospheres and lower gravity; thus, liquid could evaporate much more easily than on more massive ocean planets. Theoretically, such planets could have higher waves than their more massive counterparts due to their lower gravity.

Auracexia's ice planets are usually hostile to life as we know it because they are very cold, at least on the surface. Many ice planets may have subsurface oceans, warmed by their cores or tidal forces from another nearby body, specifically gas giants. Liquid subsurface water would provide habitable conditions for life, including fish, plankton, and microorganisms. Subsurface plants and microorganisms would not perform photosynthesis because sunlight is blocked by overlying ice; instead they produce nutrients using specific chemicals called chemosynthesis. Some worlds, if conditions are right, may have significant atmospheres and surface liquids like Saturn's moon Titan which could be habitable for exotic life forms.

Auracexia's Jovian planets or giant planets are divided between Gas giants and ice giants, are massive planets and have a thick atmosphere of hydrogen and helium. They may have a dense molten core of rocky elements, or the core may have completely dissolved and dispersed throughout the planet if the planet is hot enough. In "traditional" giant planets such as Jupiter and Saturn (the gas giants) hydrogen and helium constitute most of the mass of the planet, whereas they only make up an outer envelope on Uranus and Neptune, which are instead mostly composed of water, ammonia, and methane and therefore increasingly referred to as "ice giants".

Auracexia's two dwarf planets; Although smaller than the larger terran and desert planets would have similar climate conditions as those of the Terran and desert planets, although because of their smaller size it is difficult to determine of these dwarf planets would be large enough to sustain an atmosphere, thereby shedding considerable doubt regarding whether they would be habitable.

Terrain

Icecaps, glaciers and icebergs in the oceans of the terran, desert, ocean and ice planets between the 90ºN to 60ºN and 60ºS to 90ºS latitudes. Broad expanse of tundra and forests between the 60ºN to 45ºN and 45ºS to 60ºS latitudes. Continental, mountainous throughout central regions between the 40ºN to 15ºN and 15ºS to 40ºS latitudes, predominantly desert and grasslands nearer the larger mountain ranges with accompanying plains and river basins. Large areas of temperate grasslands, savannas, and shrublands predominantly found in large river basins fed by rivers, lakes, reservoirs, estuaries, wetlands, seas and oceans with these being less likely on desert, ice, ocean and dwarf planets. Tropical wet and tropical dry climates between 15ºN and 15ºS latitudes, with the tropical wet climate being more prevalent near the equatorial regions.

Education

The Sovereign Hegemony of Auracexia has a free education system, which is guaranteed for all citizens by the Constitution, however entry to subsidized higher education is highly competitive. As a result of great emphasis on science and technology in education, Auracexian medical, mathematical, scientific, and aerospace research is generally of a high order.

Since 16,208 BCE, the 11-year school education has been introduced. Education in state-owned secondary schools is free. University level education is free, with exceptions. A substantial share of students are enrolled for full pay (many statte institutions started to open commercial positions in the last years).

In 2280, state spending for education amounted to 6.8% of the GDP or 13.3% of government expenditure. The Government allocates funding to pay the tuition fees within an established quota or number of students for each state institution. In higher education institutions, students are paid a small stipend and provided with free housing if they are from out of town.

The oldest and largest Auracexian universities are Serq'khetyeva University and Sekh'emet'yeva University. In the 2270s, in order to create higher education and research institutions of comparable scale in Auracexian regions, the government launched an initiative of establishing "imperial universities", mostly by merging existing large regional universities and research institutes and providing them with a special funding. These new institutions include Föergaa Imperial University, Acteani Imperial University, Trinity Sector Imperial University, Ae'odezh'ya Imperial University, and Cerellé Imperial University

Health

The Sovereign Hegemony of Auracexia guarantees free, universal health care for all its citizens. As of 2291, the average life expenctancy in Auracexia was 9,976 years.

Culture

Aoraqet'yari are highly social beings and tend to live in large social groups. More than any other creature, the Aoraqet'yari are adept at utilizing systems of communication for self-expression, the exchange of ideas, and organization, and as such have created complex social structures composed of many cooperating and competing groups. Aoraqet'yari groups range from families to nations.

Social interactions between Aoraqet'yari have established an extremely wide variety of values, social norms, and rituals, which together form the basis of Aoraqet'yari society. Aoraqet'yari previous to their ‘alteration’ were completely human, although inherently immune to the banes of modern mankind such as frailty, sickness and death. As such, previous to their ‘alteration’ Aoraqet'yari enjoyed extreme longevity (1,500-2,000 years) far surpassing that of modern humans, post-alteration this has become somewhat of a ‘curse’ as due to artificial engineering, the effect of free radicals on the body have been effectively neutralized, allowing Auracexians effective immortality.

In addition to living in large social groups, a substantial majority of Aoraqet'yari are divided into houses or dynasties — through progressive series of marriages, Aoarqet'yari dames rose in social rank gaining considerable political clout. Owing to the lack of sexual division throughout the Sovereign Hegemony of Auracexia, Aoraqet'yari women abandoned the old traditions that had previously been assigned based on gender, with families becoming matriarchal. Aoraqet'yari dames — the sires of their offspring, began marrying dames or mothers of other families, and through this practice the oldest and most venerable houses of Aoraqet'yari society were born. The matriarch or head of a House possessing such a higher social rank are therefore privy to the political matters and have considerable power and influence on politics, even at the lowest administrative subdivision.

In Aoraqet'yari society, aside from choosing a mate based on the typical qualities (hip-to-waist ratio, breast size and hair quality/color), mates are chosen based on additional characteristics: eye color, tentacle coloration and pattern, size, and flexibility. Another means of attaining higher social rank, is that of being an Aoraqet'yari woman of considerable beauty, those aware of their qualities possessing enough cunning can utilize this same quality to exploit the favors of others for her benefit, or hold in check the favor she exhibits to others until a more favorable woman is found to be her mate.

As a result of the establishment of houses, Aoraqet'yari society became divided into social classes:

  • Grand Dames, women who've sired and birthed children
  • Dames, those who've only sired children
  • Matriachs, those who only birthed children
  • Femmes, those who have reached the age of maturity and are of breeding age
  • Ingénue, those who have not reached the age of maturity.

Language

Auracexians are extremely adept in modern human linguistics as their language is a proto-language; their 'royal tongue' dialect resembles at most a combination of ancient Egyptian, Arabic and Slavic languages, the Aoraqet common language is resembles a fusion of Slavic and Latin.

Alphabet

The Auracexian language has thirty-one letters with a unique alphabet.

Gender Roles

The lack of sexual division between Auracexians has been marked culturally by a corresponding unity of roles, norms, practices, dress, behaviour, rights, duties, privileges, status, and power. Originally, the cultural differences by gender were believed to have arisen naturally out of the previous division of reproductive labor; the biological fact that women gave birth led to their further cultural responsibility for nurturing and caring for children. Since the elimination of genders and the subsequent consolidation of male and female into one gender within the Auracexian race, gender roles have virtually vanished as the difference between male and female blurred into one cohesive gender. What challenges were present upon the advent of this unified gender have long since been addressed and shows little to no effect in Auracexian society today.

Social Rank & Status

Society within Auracexia is highly matriarchal, as the eldest female not only leads her family, but wields a sizable amount of political power. Throughout the Auracexian worlds, the Matriach of a House is considered to be one of the highest levels of local government. Historically, when the population of the Aoraqet was in the number of millions as a result of the Z'Surani Curse, and the population of the Auracexian worlds were recovering, the practice of plural marriage became accepted as a means of saving themselves from near extinction. Decades after the population recovered enough to where extinction was no longer a threat, the institution of plural marriage became more equated to a display of social status, to where the more women an Auracexian had as wives, the more prominence she would achieve in local society. Eventually, the more prominent women began establishing dynasties or houses where members of their lineage were given an amount of power equivalent to their position within said dynasty.

The has the largest and most technologically powerful economy in the world, with a per capita GDP of $53,000. In this market oriented economy, private individuals and business firms make most of the decisions, and the federal, state and the governments of the autonomous republics buy needed goods and services predominantly in the private marketplace. SHA business firms enjoy greater flexibility than their counterparts in Western Europe and Japan in decisions to expand capital plant, to lay off surplus workers, and to develop new products. At the same time, they face higher barriers to enter their rivals' home markets than foreign firms face entering SHA markets. SHA firms are at or near the forefront in technological advances, especially in computers and in medical, aerospace, and military equipment; their advantage has narrowed since the end of the Aoraqet-Z'Surani Galactic War in 21,208 BCE. The onrush of technology largely explains the gradual development of a "three-tier labor market" in which those at the bottom lack the education and the professional/technical skills of those at the top and, more and more, fail to get comparable pay raises, health insurance coverage, and other benefits; while those in the middle are moderately educated and possess some of the professional/technical skills through education whether it be in community colleges or in universities. Since the Twentieth Era, 261st year (equiv to 2290 CE), practically all of the gains in household income have gone to the top 30% of households. The rebuilding of post-war Auracexian society showed the remarkable resilience of the economy. The post-war period required major shifts in national resources to the military in the creation of a self-defense force. The rise in GDP in 2261-64 was undergirded by substantial gains in labor and productivity. Declining resource prices through 2262-2264 prevented inflation and unemployment, and the economy continued its growth through year-end 2264. Imported resources accounts for about one-quarter of SHA consumption. Long-term advantages include adequate investments in economic infrastructure, rapidly falling medical and pension costs of an aging population, sizable trade surpluses, and an escalation of family income in the lower economic groups. The nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached a record $256.89 trillion in 2287. Together, these advantages caused a marked increase in the value and status of the Aoraqet Kurav'i worldwide in 2287.
