The Commonwealth of Austenersey, commonly referred to as simply Austenersey, is a democratically lead commonwealth nation located on the Atlantian Oceanian continent of Calania. Founded in 1935, it is bordered to the north by Semarland, the east by Mertagne, the south by Eystrck, and the west by an as yet un-named body of water. Austenersey covers 450,000 km², with an estimate population of 3,238,543,000 as of July 2015. Austenersey is comprised of three provinces - Callahan, Francis and Porter.

History

While historical settlements such as Austin and Jersey were occupants of Austenersey's land for centuries, the nation and it's capital, New Bellevue, were founded on September 3rd, 1935, with early inhabitants hailing from a variety of nations across modern-day Calania and Northandryun, and as far away as Luciterra. For the new nation's first twenty years, a de facto government was in power to ensure order and development. The nation's first election, in 1956, saw the foundation of two major parties - the Conservative Party, later Conservative for Austenersey; and The Liberal Party of Austenersey, with power changing hands every two to three terms. By 1974, New Bellevue had reached a population of 2 million, with Portland and Cautley reaching the same figures 6 years later. By the nation's 50th year anniversary, Austenersey's total population had climbed to 85 million.

Etymology

While it is debated as to the origin of the name Austenersey, one popular theory stems from the historical settlements of Austin, to the country's north; and Jersey, to the east.

The standard way to refer to a citizen of Austenersey is as an "Austenersian."

Geography

The country's capital city - New Bellevue - is located in Callahan Province, one of three in the nation - the other two being Porter and Francis - and is home to more than 10 million people. Situated 195kms north of the border with Eystrck, it is home to the country's biggest corporations, leading some to describe the sprawling metropolis as "Suits City". 1040kms east of New Bellevue is Portland, Callahan's second largest city. Home to large industrial projects - including the national power grid - the city's economy is the second largest in the country. To the north, Mount Carcer - standing 1327m high - surrounded by the Francis Valley, which spans more than 1200kms. Osbourne is the largest city in Francis Province, branded as the "gateway to the north", and is supported by tourism. 750kms north worst of New Bellevue is Cautley, the water city, home to beaches and summer fun. In between, sweeping hills and low valleys makes Austenersey one of the continent's most beautiful nations.
