The Colonial Labor Party (CLP, commonly referred to and known as Labor) is major center-left political party in the United Colonies of Aldia and has often been described as an alliance of social democrats and trade unionists. The party has been in government since the 1873 General Election, making it the longest governing party in the history of the United Colonies. Labor has worked closely with the Greens since they formed government in the 1873 General Election, this special relationship Labor shares with the Greens was solidified when the two parties formed a formal alliance in order to form government in the 1962 General Election onward. The party's official platform includes the promotion of a healthy non-monopolistic private sector, state intervention, social justice, worker rights and the right to own private property & land.

The current modern Labor party was not established as a centralized party until 1611 when the the establishment of the Colonial Parliament in its planning stages. It has been considered as the successor of various center-left political parties that governed the various nations of Aldia during the era of the Aldian Cooperative. Before the United Colonies was formed most of these parties and its supporters decided to band together and establish the modern Colonial Labor Party. Labor formed the first government of the United Colonies and has shaped many of its most important laws and legislation. Since its formation Labor has underwent several major changes in its political position and ideology. These changes can be categorized in three major eras: the Woodrow era, the Nathalie era and currently the Attley era. These three men and women are all party leaders of Labor who has shaped the policies and views of the party throughout an extended period of time.

The party is divided into two major factions: the moderate social democrats who form the majority of Labor MPs, and the left-wing socialists who form a small but influential minority. These two factions don't always cooperate with each other to the point where some members of the social democrat faction has suggested that the socialist faction breakaway from Labor to form their own party. The more left-wing oriented ideology of the socialists has been blamed by many for Labor's continuing loss of membership and reduced voter share.

Ideology & National Platform

Labor has often been described as a center-left political party, the adherence to the principles of social democracy inscribed in the party's manifesto and constitution since its inception. The key areas that Labor dearly upholds includes: the establishment of a competitive private sector, limited forms of government intervention in the economy, a welfare state which led to the creation of a universal healthcare system, promoting social justice, worker rights and the right to own private property & land. Labor strongly rejects left-wing and Marxist views of socialism and communism, seeing them as destructive and unsustainable economic policies that are not compatible with the realities of an open galactic market.
