To comemmorate the tournament's origins as a competition sponsored by a Krytenian telecoms company, the 50th Cup Winners' Cup (2nd edition under IFCF control) final was held at Cygnus Stadium in Bromham, Krytenia to celebrate the 50th edition of the international tournament for Cup winners. This would actually have been the 51st final, as one season was missed between the holding of the 48th and 49th editions (the latter being the first Cup Winners' Cup under the IFCF umbrella).

The IFCF Cup Winners' Cup is an international football club competition contested by the winners of domestic cup tournaments. Prior to IFCF takeover, the competition was known as the Cygnus Cup.
