Downtown Jaketon

Downtown Jaketon is the central business district of Jaketon, Alaska. Downtown is located on the north bank of the Brooks Lake. The approximate borders of Downtown include Brooks Creek to the west, Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to the north, Riggs Street to the east, and Brooks Lake to the south.

It is where the city's high rise buildings are located, as well as being the center of government and business for the region. Downtown Jaketon is currently experiencing a building boom, with many condos & high rise towers being built.

Government

Local government

The city hall is located in Downtown Jaketon and is the administrative office of Jaketon. City hall cost $55.6 million to build and contains a total of 7 stories, of which 3 are underground. Within the building, city council meetings take place in the council chambers. The city council, including the mayor, are voted by Austin's residents and serve 4-year terms.

Jaketon Central Fire Station 1, 2, and 4 of the Jaketon Fire Department, all of which are located in downtown, provide fire protection.

County government

The County offices, including the Commissioners Court, district courts, county courts, and other facilities are located in the Downtown Complex.

State government

The Alaska University System is headquartered in Downtown Jaketon. Henry Hall, the main headquarters, was originally a federal courthouse and post office. The Michaels State Office Building is located in Downtown Jaketon. It includes the Alaska State University System headquarters.

The Alaska Third Court of Appeals is located in the Price Daniel, Sr. State Office Building in Downtown Jaketon.

The Alaska Department of Public Safety operates the Region 7 office in Downtown Jaketon.

Federal government

Downtown is filled with the headquarters of many federal agencies.

The Cascadian Postal Service operates the Downtown Jaketon Post Office.

Diplomatic missions

The hosts many embassies of other nations, most located downton.

Transportation

Jaketon Metro provides public transportation services, including bus, paratransit and since 2021, commuter rail services to Downtown Austin. The Jaketon Metrorail is located near the Jaketon Convention Center on Oregan Avenue, between Neches and Trinity; the station is outside of the Jaketon Convention Center.
