Frederick IV (1834-1918) was the seventh King of Brasland. He was the son of George II and his Caldan wife, Princess Juliette Stuart.

Reign

As Crown Prince, he saw how most of his father's prerrogatives were slowly transferred towards Parliament. He considered this as negative, and was determined to change the situation when he succeeded the throne.

In 1881 he became King of Brasland after his father's death. At first, Frederick maintained good relations with Parliament, but gradually he began to win support for his decision to restore the Crown's powers. In 1891, with the Army on his side and the Church's support, he dissolved Parliament and announced that new elections would not be called for. Although this caused a shock, his quick action and his alliance with the Armed Forces prevented any real opposition to be successful. Thus, for the next thirty years he would rule Brasland with almost absolute powers, although he always used them with moderation and surrounded himself with capable ministers and advisors.

During his reign, Brasland became a prosperous country and some areas of kingdom flourished with the establishment of new industries. As war erupted in Europe in 1914, Frederick decided to remain neutral, avoiding the conflict to reach Brasland's shores.

He died in 1918, and was succeeded by his son, Frederick V.

Family

In 1861 he married Amelia, one of the daughters of Alfred, Duke von Kerlich. They had five children: Crown Prince Karl (1863-1884), Prince Jakob (1864-1865), Princess Clotilde (born 1866; married to Daniel III, Emperor of Excalbia), Princess Sophie (born 1869; Abbess of Neuberg), Princess Adelaïde (born 1870) and Princess Gabriella (born 1872). Amelia died shortly after giving birth to her youngest daughter.

Devastated over the loss of his wife, Frederick would not marry until eight years later, when he met the lovely Princess Theodora Capet, daughter of the Pantocratorian Emperor Manuel IX. They married in 1880 and had three children: Frederick V (born 1884), Princess Margarita (born 1885) and Prince Louis (born 1889).
