Friedrich, Duke von Kerlich (1833-1898) was the son of Duke Alfred V von Kerlich.

He was a physically weak man with a tendency to melancholy. This put him at odds with his very strong and intimidating father, who disapproved of him.

In 1855 he married Franziska von Bogen. His father was against the marriage and disinherited Friedrich, and also attempted (with no success) to prevent him from inheriting the ducal title after his death. The couple was childless.

Friedrich led a quiet life in the countryside and devoted most of his time to learn entomology, becoming an erudite in the subject. He wrote several articles in specialized magazines. He had little contact with his family, although he remained in good terms with some of his sisters.

He became Duke of Kerlich in 1893 but died in 1898.
