Genosha

A nation founded in 1916, released by it's former owner, the Codexian Empire. It is a rather small, unnoticeable country that occupied a landmass to the south of the Veridian Union. Formerly a hotbed of terrorist activity since the 1950s, instigated by the Genoshan Party of Brotherhood. The GPB has maintained a stronghold of the government until it's dissolution for rather unknown reasons in 1968. From then, the nation has made massive political shifts to favor the Veridian Union.

Currently, it stands as a satellite state in the Veridian Union's sphere of influence. Many influences within Genosha derive from the Union. It has a small and rich economy. It has about 96 billion barrels of crude oil reserves. Crude oil reserves are the oil that is still under the ground and has not yet been cleaned up. Currently the Union holds it's position as primary in oil consumption in Genosha.

Climate / Location

Genosha is made up of general flatlands with forested regions, with small islands dotting around them. To the north lies the Veridian Islands. The continent of Atlantia lies further north.

The nation enjoys a tropical and dry climate, with some regions being arid, more so in others.

Economy & Industry

The Genoshan National Reserve is responsible for developing and maintaining the Genoshan Pound, which serves as the primary form of currency in Genosha. Wey-Yu Industries has announced that they are building a Corporate office building in Hammer Bay, along with a distribution center for local and international shipping.

Genosha is widely considered to be a very rich country in the world regarding natural resources; its untapped deposits of crude oil.

Government

Genosha is formally a unitary republic. The constitution adopted in 1971 effectively transformed Genosha into a semi-general governor republic. The General Governor is Head of State and the Prime Minister is Head of Government. The legislature, the Parliment is the body responsible for passing laws, approving government appropriations and debating policy. In the event of a vote of no confidence by a simple majority, the Prime Minister is required to tender the resignation of their government to the General Governor.

The executive branch consists of the General Governor, the prime minister, and the Head of House of Commons.

The constitution gives the General Governor the right to appoint ministers, to declare war and state of emergency, to issue laws (which, except in the case of emergency, require ratification by the Parliment), to declare amnesty, to amend the constitution, and to appoint civil servants and military personnel. According to the 1971 constitution, the General Governor is elected by Genoshan citizens in a direct election.

Genosha's legislative branch is the unicameral Parliment. Under the current constitution, Genosha does not hold multi-party elections for the legislature.

Genosha's judicial branches include the Supreme Constitutional Court, the High Judicial Council, the Court of Cassation, and the State Security Courts. Genosha has three levels of courts: courts of first instance, courts of appeals, and the constitutional court, the highest tribunal. Religious courts handle questions of personal and family law. The Supreme State Security Court (SSSC) was abolished by General Governor Bashat Tornal by legislative decree No. 53 on 21 April 2011.

Genoshan Armed Forces

The General Governor of Genosha is commander in chief of the Genoshan Armed forces, comprising some 60,000 total personnel. The military is a conscripted force; males serve in the military upon reaching the age of 18. The obligatory military service period was being decreased over time, in 2005 from two and a half years to two years, in 2008 to 21 months and in 2011 to year and a half.

The Armed Forces maintains very strong ties with the Veridian Union, with various arms deals and common military equipment.

Ethnicity
