George II (1806-1881) was the sixth King of Brasland. He was the son of George I and Archduchess Amalia of Austria.

Reign

During his reign, Parliament became a very powerful institution and a rival to the monarchy. Tensions between both powers caused social turmoil, as some political groups instigated the people to protest against the monarchy's almost absolute powers. George II gradually transferred most of his prerrogatives to Parliament, becoming more of a ceremonial figure with little influence in political life. He resented this, but was afraid that any attempt to defy Parliament would cause a deep division in Braslander society, so he decided to become a constitutional monarch.

George II's reign was marked by the power of the parliamentary institution and, in general, by peace. He was a very popular king, mainly because he was not involved in politics.

He died in 1881.

Family

In 1829 he married Princess Juliette Stuart, daughter of the Caldan sovereigns, King Gabriel and Queen Anna. They had fourteen children: Helena (1830-1831), Caroline (1831-1842), Frederick (born and died 1832), Frederick IV (born 1834), Elisabeth (born 1836), Margaretha (born 1837), Amalia (born 1839), Philipp (1841-1842), Tatiana (born 1843; married to Michael III, Grand Duke of Saxmere in exile), Paul Ludwig (born 1845), Louise (born 1848; married to Prince Manuel Capet, Despot of New Constantinople), Caroline (born 1850), Simeon (born 1852) and Katharina (born 1855).
