The Federal Republic of Gjulich ('Agjelacham = Gjúliç) is a Federal Republic in the continent of Amutet. 'Ameran is the seat of government and most international relations, with other cities and towns acting as local government centres and industrial centres. Gjulich is a coastal nation, and once stretched across the entire land range South of the Akelek River, even briefly venturing into lands North of that river, but this did not stay true for long.
Gjulich is a new member of The Independent Order, and has only been open to diplomatic relations with Non-Amutetikam nations for a short while.
Foundation of Gjulich is traditionally dated back to 172, when King Gjul I founded the Gjulin Empire in his name. This later evolved into the Kingdom, and later Empire of Gjulich, before the monarchy was abolished in 1926, and the Federal Republic was born. Gjulich has a long history of mediation as a neutral player in wars, but has been involved in many wars over the past years.
The economy of Gjulich is very fragile, coming in at less than $850.00 per capita. As such, the nation's Human Development Index (HDI) score suffers, and it is downgraded to a high rating, mostly propped up by education. Health is also a major concern in Gjulich, and treatments for diseases and lengthening life-expectancy are major concerns for the government.
Etymology
The name Gjulich is traditionally attributed to being based off the name of the first Emperor of the Gíjam Gjúlin, Emperor Gjúl, who united many of the tribes which had been divided.
