In 1942 he married Princess Marie Caroline von Hohenburg. They had five children: Wilhelmine (born 1943), Antoinette (born 1945), Konrad (born 1947), Elistansa (born 1950) and Robert (born 1952).
Gundakar died in 1955. By that time, he had made a large fortune by himself.
