Politics and government of Omerica

The House of Councillors (French: Chambre des conseillers) is the indirectly-elected upper house of the Parliament of Omerica. The chamber consists of 48 members appointed by the legislatures of the twenty-four cantons of Omerica and sits in the Hall of States (Salle des États) in Commonwealth House.

Considered the de facto heir to the Confederal Council, the first national legislature of Omerica, the House effectively operates in a similar fashion. Reflecting the federal structure of the Commonwealth, each cantonal delegation in the House is a representation of the cantonal government, reflecting the political composition of the legislative majority. As such the political make-up of the House is affected by changes in power in the cantons, and by extension, by elections in each canton.
