In 1970 he married Baroness Polyxena Vinegri. They have five children: Maria (born 1971), Imre (born 1973), Juliana (born 1976), Petra (born 1978) and Daniel (born 1982). His wife died in 2008.
In 2013 he remarried to Ilke Barends.
