The Narsoran Insurgency as it is referred to by some was an armed conflict fought from 2009-2014 between the Narsorann government and two principal militant organizations the NLP (Narsoran Leftist Party) and the AFLN (Armed Forces for the Liberation of Narsora).

Background

In mid-2002 a militant movement known as the Narsoran Leftist Party sprang up but was not deemed a serious threat at the time. The group stayed out of the government's eye until, mid-2009 when they claimed responsibility for a car bombing attack which left 11 people dead and 15 wounded. In 2010 the group also claimed credit for an attack on an army outpost which killed 10 servicemen and injured 18.

Conflict

In July 2010, the military began a campaign to see to the defeat of the NLP. This became widely known as the 2010 Narsoran Conflict, and led to a total of 6,605 deaths. The group surrendered after the capture and execution of their leader Julien Vezquez in Operation Green Dawn and relative peace returned. In October 2014 narsoran aircraft was hijacked and it's passengers taken hostage, although they was freed by a special forces raid, This set off a new conflict known as Operation Lightning Bolt this led a to the deaths of 275 people. The insurgency officially ended on October 16th, 2014, after the surrender of the AFLN militant group, and it's leaders.

Aftermath

The conflict has caused the deaths of around 14,000 people, as well as economic consequences. On January 17th, 2015 AFLN leader Fermín Américo Santiago was executed via Lethal Injection.
