History

Etymology

The earliest mention of Kormosk comes from a battle report dating back to around 200ad, describing a skirmish that took place near a village deep in the marshlands of the river Korr (Priz: Korrämosská). The first direct mention of the city came several years later in 232ad, when the local king build a road along the river through the marshlands where he granted the village settlement rights, officially founding the city of Korrämossk. As the Korr dialect of the Prizyetsi language developed, the name of the town changed to Kormosk, as it is known today.

Cityscape

The city's layout is dominated by the river Korr and the canals built to control the marshland the city was built on. Extensive city-planning was carried out throughout the years as the city expanded. Several sets of ring roads extend out from the city's old center, having replaced the city walls which protected the city. Originally, smaller canals also dotted the city creating an interconnecting system between the canals. Most of these canals have since been filled in, though several streets throughout the city still bear their names.

Festivals

Kormosk's largest event is the Korr festival (Priz: Korräfesten) which held annually each summer. The festival, also called the Korr River Festival, is one of the oldest in the north. Originally a festival thrown by the city's merchant guilds to celebrate the city's wealth, the festival has since become a celebration of the city's cultural history and is seen by many as the city's annual "birthday" party.

Each year the city holds a culinary festival in the center of the city's riverfront district. Chefs from across the country gather and offer their signature dishes in the large open grounds of the Etsdahl park.
