Early Life
Mary Bowes-Lyon was born in Humbershire, Kiribati, a county in northern Kiribati, in her family's estate, Hacksby Park in 1965. Her father was Geoffrey Bowes-Lyon, a wealthy hereditary Earl. Her father became extremely wealthy when he discovered oil deposits on his barren farming estate. By 1970, Lord Bowes-Lyon was the wealthiest peer in Kiribati. As such, Mary grew up highly privileged.
In 1976, at the age of eleven, Mary was sent to Marbury Girls' School, a prestigious boarding school.
