Sealand is a standard flag choice in NS settings.

Micronations are "nations" lacking international recognition as a state. True to their name, micronations often involve only small plots of land -- like houses, other buildings, private property, boats or even abandoned seaforts -- however, strictly speaking, they are not nations. Nations are culturally defined groupings of people with common historical or ancestral links, whereas micronations typically involve a single declared ruler and a small group of followers. They may claim certain aspects of states, like "official" flags, currencies, passports, even border checkpoints, but such things are useless if established countries refuse to accept them.

In this way, micronations differ from unrecognized states, which are actual, culturally bound nations and declared states without international recognition, and microstates, which are geographically small countries that do hold international recognition.

There are potentially thousands of micronations in the NS world; they are the subject of an issue entitled "@@NAME@@ Is Never Ever Getting Back Together... Like Ever" (#466).
