The Kingdom of Mvulaland (IsiMvula: umBhutokosi waseKwaMvula) is located in The East Pacific, on the planet Urth, on the continent of Gondwana. It has a middle income economy driven by diverse industries worth 20 billion dollars. It has an ethnically and linguistically homogeneous population of 1 million people. It has a savannah climate, with diverse flora and fauna and abundant mineral resources in an area of 100,000km². It has a monarch and a partially elected legislature and an independent judiciary. It has a stratified society, and high level of development. It has a rich culture of art, music and theatre. It has a unique customs and beliefs. Hominids have continuously inhabited this land, evolving into hunter-gatherers, farmers and herders, creating complex industry and technology, experiencing invasion and isolation, peace and strife, to form what is now Mvulaland.

Geography

Mvulaland has an area of 100,000km². Its highest mountain is Shonezulu Mountain which rises 2,000 metres above sea level. It longest river is the Qondelwandle River which is 200 kilometres long. The coastline is 200 kilometres long. It has a savannah biome. Summer is hot and rainy and lasts for half the year while winter is cold and dry and lasts for the other half. The nation has sizeable deposits of precious stones such as diamonds and ferrous metals. A half of the land is used for agriculture and animal husbandry. It has a diverse array of animals such as lions, elephants, zebra and giraffe.

Government

Mvulaland is a centralised parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy. The hereditary King, currently His Majesty Nkosinathi III, is the head of state and commander-in-chief of the military, with the power to veto laws and appoint the government. The Chief Counselor, currently Shayinyoka Zwane,is the head of government and the leader of a multi party system. The legislature is bicameral with a hereditary House of Chiefs, and an elected House of Representatives, with the largest party being the Mvulaland National Front (MNF) after winning 60% of the vote in the quadrennial elections of 2016. The largely impartial and efficient judicial system, at the apex of which is the Supreme Court, forms the judiciary. A reasonably well funded police force tackles average levels of crime. The state is seated in the capital Nongoma. A small military of 10,000 active men, organised into two branches (the Army and the Navy), protects Mvula territory.

Economy

Mvuland has a fairly strong and diverse economy with a GDP of 20 billion SHD and an average annual growth rate of 4%. The legal tender is the thola (T) valued at 4 thola to 1 South Hills dollar. The economy is dominated by mining especially for precious stones and ferrous metals, tourism especially ecotourism and cultural tourism, agriculture especially maize farming and cattle herding, manufacturing especially of consumer products and services especially retail, logistics and finances. The Mvulaland economy benefits from reasonably well developed transport and telecommunications infrastructure and a productive and entrepreneurial population and political stability. Taxation is average. The economy is a healthy blend of the public and the private sector.

Demographics

Mvulaland has one predominant species Homo sapiens of whom the vast majority are AmaMvula. IsiMvula is the official and most spoke first language. The largest religion is the Mvula Christian Church followed by native ancestral-worship and spiritualist beliefs broadly called Mvula Indigenous Religion. The two largest cities are Nongoma, the capital, and Manzimnandi, the biggest port, with populations of 100,000 and 75,000 respectively. There is an average life expectancy of 70 years, a Development Index score of 0.7, a literacy rate of 97%, an infant mortality of 1 death per 1000 children, and a school enrolment of 95%, a poverty rate of 5% and an urbanisation of 50% of the population.

Culture

Mvulaland has a vibrant culture. Music is dominated by Mbaqanga music genre, followed by the Isicathamiya style (with subbranches IsiPantsula and iKwaito) which developed in less affluent urban areas and jazz. Art is dominated by beadwork, pottery, wood carving and grass-weaving. Newspapers are reasonably well read, with the largest publication being the daily Izindaba zaKwaMvula. The state broadcaster, the Mvulaland Broadcasting Corporation (or MBC) dominates the television network. Radio is large and very popular with the largest being the channel Umsakazo waKwaMvula. Theatre is enjoyed by many people, the bulk of which is made up of amateur street theatre. Books are generally well received.

Social Programs

Education is compulsory from grades 1 to 10, mostly made up of technical or practical education. The largest university is the research and learning, academic Universtyle of Nongoma followed by the distance learning university the University of Mvulaland. Healthcare is of decent quality and is free for a variety of conditions and treatments, with a doctor to patient ratio of 1 to 200. The state has a welfare program centred on grants for the elderly, poor (especially children) and the disabled. There is universal access to fresh drinking water, a flush toilet and at least one meal a day.

Social Structure

Society is divided into the levels, the aristocracy and the common people, with the former being above the latter. The aristocracy are a class of hereditary and wealthy land owners and village chiefs who make up a tenth of society and own two thirds of its wealth. This is mitigated by high taxes for the wealthy and social and welfare programs. There is a strong attachment to clan structure. Adulthood is achieved by initiation (culminating in circumcision for males), citizenship by birth or naturalisation and gender inequality exists to a lesser extent, and homosexuality, while not explicitly criminalised, is looked down upon.
