The Grand Union of The Eastern Antarctic State, also known as The Eastern Antarctic State or Eastern Antarctica is a nation in the United Study Group. It borders with many countries in the region and covers 9,333,333 km2. It's population is 23 million and growing quickly. It has 13 Semi-Autonomous Provinces which are: Coats Land, Queen Maud Land, Enderby Land, Kemp Land, Mac. Robertson Land, Princess Elizabeth Land, Wilhelm II Land, Queen Mary Land, Wilkes Land, Adélie Land, George V Land, Oates Land and Victoria Land.

In, 1945, On the Antarctican Plateau, above the Greendalean Oasis, the land was relatively uninhabited, except for unintelligent penguins and relatively few research stations, but in the Greendalean Oasis, lived the intelligent penguins, they were in the late Iron Age when humans first encountered them. A few months later The Eastern Antarctic State was founded.

Etymology

The Name of The Eastern Antarctic State comes from its geography in the world. It is on the Eastern Portion of the Antarctican Continent. The Grand Union part comes from the Penguin-Human agreement that founded the country.

History

The Greendalean Oasis has been inhabited by Intelligent Penguins for 100 000 years. It is not clear what has exactly happened in this period of history, because the Penguins did not record their history in written form. Through Archaeological diggings, it is clear they progressed through the Stone Age and the Bronze Age and were in the late Iron Age when humans met.

The Eastern Antarctic State as it is now was founded from a union of The Penguins and the humans from the wreck of The Secret Flinders research Station. These researchers formed the human population of The Eastern Antarctic State. These humans then encountered the intelligent penguins, who saw the humans in a starving state and took pity. It occurred on the 5th of May, 1947. This is Antarctican Thanks-Giving Day.

The humans being technologically advanced (for the time) saw the state of technology of the penguins and proposed a co-beneficial union from which a equal-free sovereign state would be formed. The Penguins accepted and The Eastern Antarctic State was established.

The newly found Republic wrote their constitution on the 7th of October, 1947, which from then one was known as Eastern Antarctica Day, which is celebrated as a public holiday.

During, the 50s The Eastern Antarctic State was not generally engaged in the Cold War, but since it was a capitalist society, it was generally despised by communists who did not take any real action against the Antarcticans. During this period, the country went through a period of turmoil, when anti-penguin protestors wanted to demote the intelligent penguins to animal status. They went so far to become a terrorist group. This group was crushed at the Battle of Vinson Massif.

In the 60s, The Eastern Antarctic State flourished with economic prosperity. It's trade with nations in the Dwyeristic dimension made mutual economic growth. Because of this, Dwyers and Some Bystanders along with The Eastern Antarctic State traded Greendale Dwyers as a currency with each other.

In the 70s and the 80s, Awaria began to become increasingly disturbed and violated many human rights and increased its military.

Because of this, many nations signed the United Study Group Pact (USGP), this was a pact of mutual protection and economic trade. A full out war began when Awaria invaded Dwyers and The Autonomous Republic of Not Crimea. This started the United Study Group War, which finished with the dissolution of the group.

In the 1990s, the The Republic of Western Antarctica voted in a referendum to become its own sovereign state. Even though Western Antarctica became its own country, the two countries maintain a cordial relationship, both being members of the USGP. Continually both countries have a free-trade agreement with free movement of people between the two countries.

Today, The Eastern Antarctic State is a modern country that is growing at a astonishing rate due to progressive social policies which let refugees come easily. The country, although maintains a good relationship with [nation=shortname]Some Bystanders[/nation] and [nation=shortname]Dwyers[/nation], looks down upon their oppressive, conservative policies. The states of Eastern Antarctica enjoy control with there own governments, but the law passes by the federal government is final. Now, it trades currency with other countries in the New Study Group, known as the NSG economic zone. The currency is the 'unit' with the demonym of the country heading the name. E.g: The Antarctic Unit is TEAS and The Pacifican Unit in The Pacifican Islands.

Geography

The Eastern Antarctic State is a country located in the Antarctic Circle, it is one of the only countries in the world to do so. Because it is south in the world, it is very cold, with tundra biomes covering most of the country. In the centre of the country, there is a previously unknown tropical rainforest that was left over from the time of the late Cretaceous Period. It is called the Greendalean Oasis

This rainforest is inhabited in a vast array of life, many being marsupials from when the continent was not so far south. The oasis was kept warm from underground geo thermal energy like that in Iceland, the light source was from a kind of giant luminous fungi that hung from the ice above. It was in this oasis that the capital Greendale was built. The rain fall in this area is around 1900mm of rain per year.

The rest of the country is covered in icy tundra plains covered in Antarctican hair grass. This grass has flourished all over the country due to its unique ability to defrost soil that it is in and absorb it to get its water supply. This grass has provided the native Intelligent Penguins with string a supplements when they sometimes wandered out of the Greendalean Oasis. Continually, the National Animal, the Antarctican Kangaroo, the only fully land mammal that lives in the tundras, thrives on the grass and has made it become plentiful. Rainfall in this area is generally low with 50mm per year of rain

On the coasts of the Republic, it is just rocky beaches on which, penguins (the unintelligent kind) and seals of varying descriptions dwell. These animals are generally well know and documented, along with many sea birds which breed on The Eastern Antarctic State every year. The rocky terrain of these beaches means they are generally uninhabitable by humans and Intelligent Penguins, except for the Cities of Mawson and Casey. These areas receive around 100mm of rain a year.

Demographics

"Population:" The population of The Eastern Antarctic State is 501,000,000 citizens. They are mainly concentrated in the Greendalean Oasis, withe notable exceptions being on the coast line, with Casey and Mawson City (2 million people each). The population of Greendale itself is 12 million, making it a Megacity.

"Language:" Eastern Antarcticans generally speak English, which is the official language of the country, but there are many other unique penguinish languages. The native speakers of the penguinish languages number around 2.1 million citizens.

"Culture:" The Eastern Antarctic culture is a relatively new one, it is closely related to western culture, except with some differences. The climate and the temperature has a large effect on these differences. The national sport is cricket, a largely difficult sport that involves using ice skates to move on a frozen surface, trying to hit a ball with a metal club into a net to get points, the team that has most points wins. The team has fifteen overs each to get as much runs as possible and not get out, namely having a wicket taken. The game is very popular in the country and EAICL was formed for teams to compete on a national level. Most school aged children play ice cricket.

Government

In The Eastern Antarctic State, the country is currently ruled by the labor party, which took the majority of seats in the last elections.

The Eastern Antarctic State is a unicameral country with only the House of Representatives acting as the government, the leader of the party in power in the house is known as the Vice President. If a bill is passed in the house it is signed by the President, then it becomes law. Currently, the Vice President is Warky Schule (intelligent penguin) and the President is Matthew Dawson. The main opposition party is the Conservative Party, lead by Alexander Germäine (shadow president) and William Lovejoy (shadow Vice President). The government meets in the Parliament House in Greendale to discuss the laws of the country. Therefore, Greendale is set as a government territory, like Washington DC and Canberra. This government district directly obeys laws set by federal government, there is no territory government for it.

"Military"

The Eastern Antarctic State has a total defence force of around 345,800 people who are trained constantly. The budget of the defence force is of around 7.7% of the country's budget, with G$ 517,655,883,180.80 being spent on it.The defence force is divided into three branches, The Grand Antarctican Army, The Grand Antarctican Navy and the Grand Antarctican Air Force.

The total active force of the Army is of 224,770 people. It consists of 18 divisions, all of which are trained constantly to fight against the RNA (Rouge Nation of Awaria).

All infantry is given a standard uniform, with a Antarctican Standard assault rifle (comparably to the standard United States Rifle) Continually, all soldiers are trained in AK-47s and knives. Each are given a standard 6 inch knife. On the home front, the uniforms are white.

The wars the Grand Antarctican Army have participated in are: the War against Awaria and a minor succession movement when A group of rebels took over Mac. Robertson-land and tried to enslave the local intelligent penguin population. The rebellion was crushed by the highly trained Antarctican Army.

The tank division of the army is generally not used as much as the infantry, but it has played a vital role in the War Against Awaria. The Eastern Antarctic State mainly uses Abrams tanks.

The Grand Antarctican Navy:

The total navy size of The Grand Antarctican Navy consists of around 34,580 sailors. These are divided into 3 squadrons. The Government of The Eastern Antarctic State are trying to recruit more marines and sailors, because the navy is a vital defence area of The Eastern Antarctic State, mainly because the country is mostly surrounded by sea, and also because there are many ships that have been made, but are not used because of lack of recruitment. This has lead to a large navy recruitment scheme in the country.

The country has around 100 PV50 "Ice Berg" class destroyers, 50 frigates, 20 battle ships and 3 aircraft carriers.

The Grand Antarctican Airforce: The Grand Antarctican Airforce is very small compared to some countries. It consists of around 88,900 personnel, all of which are trained constantly in scrambles. The main plane used by the country is the Adele Striker, which can travel at supersonic speeds, has air to ground missile capibilties and has quad machine guns, two of which can fire backwards.

"Economy"

The Eastern Antarctic State's economy is dominated by the Public Sector, which provides welfare and other goods to the people. The private sector is large and robust too, Making 49% of the Economy. The largest industries in the nation are the Auto-Mobile industry and the information technology industry, which generate large amounts of money for the country.

Another major factor for the Antarctican economy is the mining sector. Due to the natural resources that appear in Antarctica, such as gold, iron, uranium and coal, the mining sector has boomed and made good profit, exporting large amounts of it to other countries. The amount of mining has led to the expansion of population of Eastern Antarctica away from the Greendalean Oasis.
