The Most Serene Archduchy of Aeternaea, and the Free-State of Lolede (Aetae'ii Kar'Hae'Ys Fy'S'Tae Liu'O'Dea, literally "The Immortal and Eternally Blessed Territory of the Arcduchy, and the Endless State of Lolede") is possibly the oldest nation-state in Gwalethia, having existed in one way or another since before the Heroic Age, which was from 23,002-19,552 Pre-AE; the records of an Aeternaean peoople however, go back until roughly 25,521 Pre-AE. It is a military and economic power, its true size is relatively unknown to the residents of S'Kar; all that is known is that its westernmost edge barely stretches onto the continent. Officially established in its current state on the one-hundred and thirteenth day of 22,987 WE, with Killy I vi Gloustern's First Heavenly Expansion.

The Archduchy's rapid militarisation and economic advances led to its emergence as a global power, allowing for the establishment the Protectorate Free-States, which is the establishment of colonies that are known as Free-states, which are semi-autonomous; granting 15% of their trade to the throne, and granting the throne full powers over their military. It is unknown exactly how many Protectorate Free-States there are, but the one of note is the "Greater Free-State of Lolede"; which serves as the westernmost province.

Heavily isolationist, all interactions between the Eternal Throne and outsiders are typically done through intermediaries, usually through Merchant Diplomats, or, on very rare occasions, through Holy Diplomats. Due to their isolationist tendencies, they typically refuse to work in tandem with other nations in terms of innovation or military actions. Contrary to the common-held isolationism, the merchant enclaves that exist throughout the land are known for their willingness to discuss with outsiders, and to learn from them. This unconventional attitude allowed for the establishment of the Order of the Mandela, a group of scholars, merchants, and individuals whom wish to change the Archduchy from an isolationist state into a globalist state.

It is important to note that the Bak'Ee'Ne'Vae Order, whom serve the Eternal Throne directly, also regularly act as the main intermediary with outsiders; as they have sworn to perform worldly acts on behalf of the people of Aeternaea.

Currently, the Archduchy is headed by Archduke Adean II Gloustern vi Aeternis, a more open individual compared to most of his predecessors, not counting his father, the Ducal Father Edeart "Edward" I Gloustern vi Aeternis, whom was one of the first to send public scholars to outsiders. Under the leadership of Adean II, the military has seen an even greater boost in investment, with the overall goal of gaining a navy that will never be rivalled.

Etymology

While there exists various theories on the origin of the name Aeternaea, the name is now accepted as originating from the Eternal Throne, from which the ruler of Aeternaea sits. There exists however, many debates on whether or not the Eternal Throne is older than the national term Aeternaea, a debate which the Archdukes have never made any input on, preferring to let their people attempt to figure it out. There are two main sides to this argument, both having an equally valid amount of evidence:

The first being on the side of the Eternal Throne being older than Aeternaea, stating that the throne was initially established by the legendary hero Aethric III, the Shield of Granedis, which has historical evidence in texts such as, "The Chronicles of Legends", and, "Mercenary Lords". There is also a direct quote from Aethric in his own memoirs where he mentioned "Not only I, but all my descendants shall sit eternally upon this throne", which led to many stating that the very throne he was speaking of is the same that is used today.

The second argument being that Aeternaea came before the throne. Advocates of this view state that the quote above could have merely meant that the Ducal family would rule forever, not sit on the same throne, and that it should not have been taken in a literal sense. Another point in their favour is that the first recording of the name Aeternaea, in reference to a nation, was in 22,987 WE, and the first mention of an Eternal Throne in any modern sense of the name, wasn't until 22,923 WE. Of course, the ancient language of O'Aetae'ni'Chu had very different pronunciations, and there exists no native speakers of this language left, making it difficult to tell whether or not the records are complete.

To this day this is a heavily debated topic, and it has even started conflicts between citizens who wish to prove that they are most loyal to the throne through finding the truth.

History

The Heavenly Age (Aegu'Dea'Vae'I'Hae)

The Heroic Age (Aegu'Rho'Hae)

The Heroic Age took place between 23,002 and 19,552 Pre-AE (Pre-Aeternaean Expansion), although there are many events in this era, its beginning is that of the birth of Killy I vi Gloustern "The Water Kin" (Kar'Liu'I'Vae Vaeh'Vae Gu'Liu'Rho'Stern), child of the legendary heroine; Hae'I'Mae I Vaeh'Vae Gu'Liu'Rho'Stern, whom herself is the daughter of the Messenger of the Heavens, ϓϊ'ϐσ'Ϣϩ; the deity that gave the people the Heavenly Dialect.

Kar'Liu'I'Vae was raised as a commoner; his mother made sure to hide her connection to the heavens, so that her son would not be corrupted by power. This is where the tradition of the Heavenly Throne's mandate began. The village in which they live, hidden to outsiders, was a small fishing one. Each and every day, Hae'I'Mae would bring her son to the seas around it, as she worked to gather food and meditate, her son immersed himself with the water himself; swimming, diving, and learning its movements. As time passed, Kar'Liu'I'Vae eventually learned to read, write, and speak in both the Heavenly Dialect, and the common dialect.

By the age of 12, Kar'Liu'I'Vae began to question the reality around him; people lived in poverty, struggling with one another to find a way to survive. Whenever he asked why people did not work together as one to survive, he always was told that it is the way of the world. He refused to accept this, and asked his mother. The only answer he ever received was to submit to the heavens and pray. So he did just that. he prayed every day for a year, only pausing once every three days to eat and drink. Finally, at the end of the year he received a revelation; the nation he lived in was one of great riches, but these riches have been hoarded by those in power. Those who would wield magic as a weapon and to force others into submission. The heavens have told him to overthrow this nation. He obeyed.

As soon as he finished praying, he went to his mother; she smiled at him and gave her his full support, bringing him to the sacred shrine of ϓϊ'ϐσ'Ϣϩ. According to records, there he met with an avatar of the heavens and was given the ϘϤ'Ԅᵹ'ϬϨ'Ӷԏ'λї'Ҷᴗ; the Qin'Rho Glaive, a heavenly weapon that was given to many heroic beings in the past. However, this was not the true gift he received. He also learned that he was the direct descendant of the heavens, and that his ancestors have passed their wisdom down to him through both his mother, and his father. A father he never knew, one who has been shrouded in mystery. He took up the ϘϤ'Ԅᵹ'ϬϨ'Ӷԏ'λї'Ҷᴗ and with the blessing of his mother began his journey.

His first stop, was his greatest friend; Dea'Hae'Gu Fy'Rho, who would become famous for his skill with a bow. Together they travelled across the mountains of their homeland, recruiting an army as they ventured; those who proved ever faithful to the heavens, willing to die alongside Kar'Liu'I'Vae, who became known as the "Eternal Spirit" for his ability to always be where he was needed most. There were many battles throughout these journeys, and gradually his circle of closest companions grew.

Eventually, he and his army came to the capital of their homeland; it was defended with an army that dwarfed the Eternal Army. Yet, without pause Kar'Liu'I'Vae took up his blade, mounted his horse, and charged towards the enemy. The Glaive reflected the sunlight perfectly towards each enemy he would face, blinding them long enough to be cut down. he continued to fight, inspiring his army to charge behind him; he took the heads of several generals before reaching the heir to the kingdom; whom he dueled over three days. This heir, who would later turn out to be P'O'Gu Ji'Ys; the last of the ten companions, was barely holding his own, but each time that Kar'Liu'I'Vae went for the killing blow, he would miss. Finally, he realised that P'O'Gu was destined to live by heaven's decree; so he merely disarmed him and declared that he would be spared.

Viewing this act of mercy, P'O'Gu was filled with sorrow, reaching for his blade to kill himself, but Kar'Liu'I'Vae was faster; ensuring that the blade would be knocked away. Kar'Liu'I'Vae knelt beside him and gave him his hand, explaining the purpose of this war, and how everyone must be treated as equals, with only the heavens above them. He then informed the heir of his ignorance, of how his father wielded magic to enslave the people. After realising the truth, the heir stood tall and swore allegiance to Kar'Liu'I'Vae; promising his faith and his army, which would be used to overthrow the nation.

In the final battle, it was learned that the ruler of this nation, the mage-lord of Ji'Ys was actually millennia older than thought; he had used magic to sacrifice those around him to extend his own life beyond mortal limits. A blasphemy to the heavens. He would soon be cut down by Kar'Liu'I'Vae, who would then seal away the knowledge of this magic so that no other could use it.

He would then burn down the palace, watching it crumble into ashes. After the ashes cleared, in the middle of the wreckage remained a single throne. Not the one of the former ruler, but one that was hidden away deep beneath the surface. One that shone as brightly as ϘϤ'Ԅᵹ'ϬϨ'Ӷԏ'λї'Ҷᴗ. As Kar'Liu'I'Vae approached it wit his companions, they felt a need to kneel before it. They knelt in silence for hours until all but Kar'Liu'I'Vae stood up. They stepped back and bowed towards him instead, informing him of their shared revelation; Kar'Liu'I'Vae would be more than the Eternal Spirit. He would be the Eternal Leader of a new nation, guiding it into a bright future. Kar'Liu'I'Vae was reluctant, he feared becoming corrupt, so he meditated for a full month, conversing with his ancestors. At the end of the month, he accepted his new responsibility and ordered that all the riches of the palace be distributed to those of his new realm; promising equality and peace to those who he ruled over; beginning the enlightenment.

The Eternal Throne

The term Eternal Throne has been used throughout a large portion of Aeternaea's history. It refers to multiple things; the ruler of Aeternaea, the faith of Aeternaea, the throne the ruler sits upon, and even the nation itself. The reason for this is that the people of Aeternaea see now difference between the individual on the throne, and the nation as a whole. The explanation for this is that the nation was founded by the family that sits on the Eternal Throne, and through their flawless efforts, they were able to unify the entirety of the population under their leadership.

The exact history behind the divine cult however, is fairly unknown. The only certain fact that we have is that there exists nobody living in the Heartlands that does not obey, love, and worship the Eternal Throne; all of them fully willing to give their lives for it. This worship is what divides the people of Aeternaea into two equal categories: The Heartlanders, whom are those who are born in the Heartland Provinces and fully worship the Throne; and the Outlanders, whom are born in the Free-State of Lolede, whom still worship the Throne, but to a lesser extent than the Heartlanders.

Members of House Gloustrik vi Aetae'ii (Commonly translated to House Gloustern vi Aeternis) are considered to be one and the same as the Eternal Throne. The head of the house being the centre of the divine cult. Having existed for millennia, in an unbroken chain of succession, they are the longest-living dynasty in Gwalethia.

Adean II Gloustern vi Aeternis

Adean II Gloustern vi Aeternis (Full name: Aedean Edeart Vaeh vi Gloustern Aek'Nee Gorrak vi Aeternis y Gu'Rho'Aetae; Aetae'Rhoi: Aedean Edeart Vaeh'Vae Gu'Liu'Rho'Stern Aek'Nee'Ghu'O' Vaeh'Vae Aeternis), the Eternal Ruler, Lord of the Heavens, Eternal Master of the Heartlands, and Endless Watcher of the Lands, is the current head of state of Aeternaea. He is sometimes called the Archduke of Beauty, thanks to his amazing eye for architecture.

He succeeded the throne aged 16, when his father abdicated in his favour. In eternal tradition, it was assumed that all the holy might and wisdom had passed down to him from his father; whom himself inherited the holy might and wisdom from all their ancestors. Two years after his ascension, he established the first embassy in Aeternaean history.

The Eternal Senate

The Eternal Peers

The Eternal Peers are the noble families of Aeternaea. All from various backgrounds, they exist to serve the nation as the uppermost branch of the Eternal Senate. It is up to them to approve or dismiss anything passed by the Eternal Diet. Upon granting leave to anything brought before them, they present it to the Eternal Throne and await its actions. It is divided into two sections: The Ten Great Families, and the Thirty-Two Lower Families.

The Ten Great Families

The Ten Great Families are descendants of the original Ten Eternal Companions of Aetrik I "Ae'Dea'Vae'Ee'Ne'Tae". These families are always competing for favour of the Eternal Throne, and they are always members of the Throne's Inner Circle. Each family holds three votes among the peers, granting them near equal power as the Thirty-Two Lower Families. The Ten Families are found below:

House vi Liu'Ae'Tae'ii

The vi Liu'Ae'Tae'ii family are distant descendants of the Eternal Bloodline, tracing themselves to the first cousin of Aetrik. Known as the Southern Eternals, they are one of the three families that proclaim themselves to be members of the Eternalist Faction. Devoutly loyal to the words of the Eternal Throne, knowing that they serve a greater purpose by following them. Currently headed by Great Lord Hae'Qin'Ji XV vi Liu'Ae'Tae'ii, they are currently experiencing a period of growing power, as they are directly in charge of a third of Aeternaea's entire land forces. Their coat of arms is that of a golden dove on flying below a red raven, in a blue sky.

House vi Uu'Ae'Tae'ii

Like the vi Liu'Ae'Tae'ii, the Uu'Ae'Tae'ii family are distant descendants of the Eternal Bloodline, tracing themselves to the uncle of Aetrik. Known as the "Northern Eternals", they are one of the three families that proclaim themselves to be members of the Eternalist Faction. Devoutly loyal to the words of the Eternal Throne. Currently headed by Great Lord Dea'Ne'Qin III vi Uu'Ae'Tae'ii, they are experiencing a period of growing power, being directly in charge of the first layer of the Aeternaean Divine Fleet. Their coat of arms is that of a silver crow silhouette, with a black moon behind it, during a deep purple night.

House vi Fy'Rho
House vi Rho'Hae
House vi Hae'Chu'Dea'O
House vi Ji'Kar
House vi Zae'Qin'Ys
House vi Fy'Kar
House vi Bak'Dea

The vi Bak'Dea family is perhaps one of the youngest of the ten families, known for being open by Aeternaean standards, they choose the focus on diplomacy rather than force. Members of the Open Faction, they believe in trying to communicate with outsiders whenever possible, without risking the safety of Aeternaea as a whole. The current head of the family is the Holy Diplomat, Lady Nae'Ji'O II vi Bak'Dea. She is known for her shrewd and quick mind, even in her elderly years. Their crest is that of a butterfly sitting on a growing branch, on a red background, a butterfly in a purple background, and the house name on a white background.

Ducal Army

The main standing army of Aeternaea is known as the Ducal Army. These soldiers are extremely well trained, serving every primary role. Trained to fight in any environment, they are known and feared across Gwalethia. Split into three categories; The Throne's Shadow, The Throne's Light, and the Throne's Vision; they are able to adapt to their tasks.

Army of the Eternal Throne

The Army of the Eternal Throne, an army shrouded in mystery; hand-picked by the Eternal Throne, they serve as the elite of the elite, their actions unknown. If a member of this army is ever met, you know for certain that something big is about to happen. Given absolute authority, the lord-generals in charge report directly to the Eternal Throne, and have the ability to take command of anyone, or anything.

Economy

One of the most powerful economies in Gwalethia, Aeternaea controls the oceans around the Heartland. Fearing any outsiders, they deem to ensure that all the resources they find are immediately mastered by themselves. In order to ensure that their economy remains powerful however, they have established the Free-State of Lolede, a merchant-colony that is permitted to trade with outsiders. Through this colony, they are able to sell their luxurious and high-quality goods, whilst learning about the world around them. In order to prevent any harm to their economy, Lolede has been granted a high level of autonomy, whilst still being protected by the Holy Fleet, and a large army.

Science and Technology

Aeternaea is perhaps one of the most technologically advanced nations in Gwalethia; they invest heavily in their own creations, fielding the greatest navy and perhaps one of the greatest armies across the planet. The reason for this is that they abhor outsider technology, and would rather develop their own methods of accomplishing tasks than to trust outsiders. As a result, they adapt very poorly to unknown technology, preferring to wait for their own nation to develop an equivalent form of technology than to adopt this foreign one.

In terms of scientific advancements, they are willing to pursue the sciences at nearly any extent; as they believe that the power of the scientific mind is greater than any magical advancement, leading them to being one of the most anti-magical nations, the only mages being purely licensed ones with permission directly from the Eternal Throne.

In addition to their martial prowess, they also have great technology in civil and state infrastructure; building canals and roads, palaces and housing for their people. Aeternaea desires to ensure that all that live on the heartlands enjoy a life of luxury, as only those who follow the Eternal Throne are welcomed.
