Ardchoille (ARD-coil), in another universe, might be a name that strikes fear in the heart of rulebreakers everywhere, but in this one, it's a nation of eminent wizardly charm, most prominent on the world stage for its active role in the World Assembly (and the UN before it). The Free Toy with Every Meal once had a connection with Findhorn, but the historical chronicle detailing exactly what it was has since been misplaced, so we're uncertain as to what form it took. (Ardchoille is not called the "Lost Colony" for nothing, you know.) But the two countries have grown apart over the years, the basic divide being that Ardchoille is a deeply ancient and mystical land where its human inhabitants have developed the ability to perform awesome acts of sorcery, and Findhorn, being good religious fundamentalists, frown on witchcraft. They also must hate cats, because Ardchoille has them in droves: semi-anthropomorphic, intensely magical creatures capable of communicating with their human neighbours, even if they cannot practise magic like them.

Prominent Ardchoilleans include Dicey Reilly, who as President for Life technically rules Ardchoille, and Phillippe Thibaudet, who as High Priest of the Oldest Coven technically rules Dicey (and all witches). Then there's Bast, Dicey's "feline adviser"; Ben Chifley, the former prime minister of Australia who served as Ardchoille's co-president for a term; John McGonnagle, the Secretary for Situations Like This, who serves as sort of a crisis manager; William Kelly, a non-magical politician who as head of the powerful lobby group ArdchoilleaNS represents the 10 percent of Ardchoille's human population who are just like him ("Normal Status" or "NS"); and Avaya Thibaudet, Phillippe's niece and now the Secretary for Foreign Affairs, who unwittingly made herself a tabloid sensation in her country when she started dating Sammy Faisano of Omigodtheykilledkenny. Another Ardchoillean who has brought embarrassment upon his country is Thierry la Fronde, ambassador to Omigodtheykilledkenny, who was recently implicated in the national "KwikiLeaks" scandal.
