Caria (Carian: Καρία - Karhía) is a developped first world country in the world of Europe, on the continent of Eurodisney, more specifically on the region of Latinium. She is famous for her rich culture, maritime tradition, its great contributions to all parts of civilization and proud ancient, medieval and modern history. Caria is an Crowned Federal Republicwith many elements of a direct democracy. Caria is composed of ten Duchies, all of which enjoy great autonomy.

Caria is the homeland of countless philosophers, and philosophy itself, musicians, theatric writers and actors, painters and many more, many of these arts having been born in Caria. It is considered the birthplace of both music, theatre and western art.

History

Main article: History of Caria Caria is the birthplace of the field of Science known as History itself and had a large and greatly important history. Caria is the birthplace of the field of Science known as History itself and had a very rich & important history.

3200 BC - 2000 BC First organized society in Caria appears near Navarino. Peaceful and isolated it is focused on trade. It communicates with older and greater civilizations of the area by sea trade. After a severe wave of earthquakes and an invasion from the north it is destroyed.

2700 BC - 1450 BC Another civilized society appears near Nauplio. It is much older but similar to the one near Navarino. It is also conquered by Northern Carian Tribes. These two civilizations are called Kolpic because they were both in bays, Kolpoi in Carian.

1600 BC - 1100 BC Northern Tribes take elements from the conquered Kolpic civilizations and those they trade with. They form their own civilization, the Doxian, from the Carian word Doxa which means glory. They establish most great Carian cities, like Nauplio,Avarinus and Naupactus. They too fall victim to invasions from Northern Tribes and the Thalassinoi pirate Carian tribes, meaning "Sea Peoples" in Carian. Avarinus is burned to the ground.

1100 BC - 800 BC Chaos and anarchy reign in central Caria with the Doxian Civilization having fallen. Refugess found settlements to the north or far south to escape the invaders and pirates.

800 BC - 480 BC Order is restored in Caria and civilization re-emerges. It is however changed and influenced by many external factors. Many city re-emerge and new ones are also founded. Avarinus is rebuilt, Nauplio and Naupactus re-grow and Antikyra emerges as a new city. Minor wars occur between the cities and external enemies but this age is somewhat peaceful. Carians re-establish contact with other civilizations. The words Caria and Carian first emerge in this period. New types of government emerge with the Tyrants and Aristocracy being the most common.

480 BC - 323 BC Sounio establishes a Democracy and Oligarchies start taking over the Aristocratic Cities. Tyrants are still present but less. Sounio establishes a hegemonic empire of the central Carian city states and Anavarinus establishes an oligarchic one in the south. Many great works of art and philosophy emerge during this period. A long civil war between the two hegemonic empires brings the Carians to their knees. The northern city state of Nikaia conquers all of Caria and unites the Carians into a Kingdom and expands Carian rule to many nearby lands.

323 BC - 30 BC The Nikaian Kingdom of the Carians splits into smaller Kingdoms. A new golden age dawns for Caria with Carian being an important trading language. A common Carian language and identity finally emerges. However the constant warring of the Kingdoms who seek to re-create the Nikaian Empire under their rule weakens them. Many fall to the Romans. The last Carian city, Avarinus falls to the Romans and is destroyed for resisting.

30 BC - 330 AD Caria recovers from the conquest. Carian becomes an official language of the Empire and Caria prospers under Roman rule without the fear of civil war ever again. For this the Carians thank the Tiburans who they see as good rulers. Later however the increasing barbarian influence of the Empire and its corruption anger the Carians who declare independence again. The Empire is too weak to stop them and the Carian Kingdom is established.

330 AD - 1204 AD The Carian Kingdom manages to hold its ground against foreign invasion, including invaders from Újország. Brutal actions are done against foreign populations living in Caria, like Eastern Peoples, Jews, Germans and others by the Carians who deemthem unworthy of living in Caria. While this enrages the Tiburan Empire it is too weak to act now. Later, when internal corruption and repeated invasions weaken the Kingdom, Sauerlandians and Emslandians conquer it. Caria is reorganized into Duchies and Aristocratic Republics under Germanic vassalage. Kings of Újország invade southward into north Caria. The two Duchies conscript locals to help them fight off the invaders. Ultimately they are successful.

1204 AD - 1699 AD Caria is under harsh Sauerlandian and Emslandian rule. However the Carians never miss a chance to revolt and always support their rulers' enemies. Except for invasions from the east like those of Eastern Tribes. In 1684 they take advantage of their opressors exhaustion from many recent wars and rebel. As a result the Carian city of Nauplio in 1699 becomes an Independent Despotate. The Naupliot Duke becomes its Despot. The Carians are allowed to freely speak their language, which has changed greatly after all these centuries. The rest of Caria becomes two Grand Duchies in state unions with Sauerland and Emsland respectively.

1770-1775 AD Nauplio is an independent entity, and the rest of Caria consists of two duchies which are in personal unions with Sauerland and Emsland. From around 1750 onwards, the Duke of Sauerland comes under the influence of Enlightenment. He does not give up power, far from that, but he becomes an enlightened despot. Of course this has positive consequences for the parts of Caria under Sauerlandian rule. The Duke of Sauerland allows the Carian language, and allows freedom of religion. He allows a lot more, and the Sauerlandian part of Caria starts to develop. The Duke of Emsland, on the other hand, remains the same bully as he always was and maintains a harsh rule over the parts of Caria he governs. Of course the people in the Emslandian part of Caria see what happens in the Sauerlandian part of Caria, and want that as well. That leads to the revolt of 1770 in the Emslandian part of Caria. In the Sauerlandian part of Caria, things go in a more quiet way: People demand independence and support their demand by means of civil disobedience. The Duke of Sauerland initially tries to stop the "revolt" in his part of Caria, but soon realises that the developments cannot be stopped. He drafts a plan for a smooth transition into independence of the Sauerlandian part of Caria. That plan is accepted, and the Sauerlandian part of Caria becomes independent in 1772. The Duke of Emsland reacts in a different way. He sends in the army. That results in a bloody war lasting five years, ending with the battles of Navarino and Antikyra, the independence of the Emslandian part of Caria in 1775 and the complete exhaustion of Emsland, which would cease to exist seven years later. Nauplio's great successes in this war raise its status in the eyes of many Carians as Caria's only hope for unification. (Credit to @Eiffelland for this part)

1775 AD - 1798 AD After the victorious battles of Navarino and Antikyra the Carian cities are allowed to become independent. All Carian States become great trading centres once again focused on peaceful progress. But for many Carians the dream of a united Caria is what they want most. The Despotate of Nauplio seems like the best advocate for the cause. Rebel volunteers from across Caria under the banner of Nauplio join Naupliot troops. Others fight as uerillas. The volunteers were called Galanochitones (Γαλανοχίτωνες - Blue Shirts) and the guerillas Efzones (Εύζωνες - Bearing many arms). The conquered City States are given great autonomy and in exchange recognize the Naupliot Archon as Despot, House based Monarch, of the Carians and are united in a federal-like state. In short the Archons and their City States become tributary states of Nauplio and its Despot. Relations greatly improve with Eiffelland.

1799 AD - 1954 AD The Carian Armed Forces, which took a major role in the war of independence and the wars of unification replaces all seperate armies of the cities as the sole Military of Caria. Its branches are the Army of the Land and the War Navy. In 1913 the Military Aviation also emerges as the third branch. Caria once again focuses on trade and banking. Fishing and agriculture are its main production activites however. Deposits of precious metals, diamonds, gems and coal help enrich the poor country and natural gas in the sea also contributes to this. However the nation is still a middle sized economy focused on sustaining itself and givign its citizens a good level of life. Caria has a very large merchant fleet. Just like in the previous period relations with Eiffelland improve.

1954 - 1955 AD A revolution begins in Sounio after the local Astynomia attempts to violently supress a riot by the impoverished people in the fish market. A greater uprising begins, led by the Leftists and especially Dr. Nikolaos Zorbas, a professor of Philosophy in the famous Academy of Sounio, and Cleisthenes Agonistis, his protegé. It turns into an all out Revolutionary War, which ends in the abdication of the Despot, the Nauplio Trials against the regime as well as some violent rebel leaders and the establishment of a Provisional Government after elections to draft a constitution. The government is made up of the Executive Assembly and the Constitutional Assembly.

1955 Army seizes control of Nauplio and Pyrgos. Depsot and Dr. Zorbas are assasinated. Crown Prince rules over Naupactus, Navarino and Elios Island while Cleisthenes Zorbas becomes the ruler of nine City States that form the Amarysian League. A war between the Junta and the two latter factions occurs and the Junta is defeated. The two winners split Caira into East and West, a Crowned Republic and a Socialist Democracy, later uniting into the current Kingdom of Caria.

The Armed Forces of Caria are officially called the Royal Army. They are made up of the Royal Land Army Component, Royal Navy Component and the Royal Aviation Component. Caria used to have military service but it has been abolished. There are also state sanctioned mercenaries/private security-military contractors who seen very tight restrictions palced upon them in recent years. The Carian forces are mainly equipped internally and they are self sufficient, making up for their small size with quality equipment, strict discipline and great training.

Demographics

Main article: Demographics of Caria

Caria is made up of ethnic Carians in about 95%. There are some small minorities with Tiburtinan and Eiffellander roots. The ban on migration by the authoritarian Despots before the Revolution of 1954 means Caria has very solid demographics. The Carian government has chosen to allow immigrants in, but no more than 8,000 a year. in return for their small number they are found jobs and residence and supported continuously through integration & equal chance programs, after signing up for migration in Carian diploamtic buildings abroad. They are also evenly distributed among the Duchies. To quell the fears of the more conservative factions in Carian politics the state has created incentives for ethnic Carians to produce more offspring, a policy that seems to be succeeding.

Another notable part of education is that many foreigners come to Carian universities, especially in cities that were major centres in the ancient times and renaissance, to study. While Carian Citizens are provided education for free, foreigners have to pay, generating a considerable income for the state, since universities are state owned. Economy

Main articles: Economy of Caria

Caria has a developped first world western economy with many branches. Caria got largely industrialized during Eiffellander rule and even after independence tha major industrial centers established with the blessing of the Eiffellanders continued to grow. Instead of a few very large industries Caria has many smaller ones. >Automobiles - Caria has a competitive automobile industry with three major companies in the sector. Caria recently expanded its sales beyond Eurodisney to Kanthe, through Arakan.

>Household Appliances - Another major industry of Caria, mainly produced by the same companies that produce automobiles and heavy machinery.

>Arms Industry - Caria has a modern arms industry that provides both Carian forces, private buyers and foreign nations with modern quality weaponry and military vehicles on both land and air. At the same time Caria's aerial vehicles are not very advanced and do not have many sales outside the country's armed forces or airline companies. In general Caria's industries in this secotr provide for internal needs and have some smal lto moderate exports because of their balance between quality-technology and price-quantity.

  • Pharmacutical Products & Medicine - Caria has laboratories and chemical companies that produce medical-pharmacutical products and medicine.
  • Mining & Minerals - Caria has a rich ground that provides it with a major mining industry. Caria sells and exports the famous Sounian Marble, as well as other marbles, Gold, Diamonds, Silver, other precious metals and stones, building materials-rocks, industrial minerals and coal.
  • Jewelry & Fashion - Directly linked to the previous category, Caria has jewelry and fashion goods known across Latinium, Gallo-Germania and even beyond them, mainly due to Carians' long history of making adn selling jewelry and clothing. Since these are luxury goods they do not have the high consumption of other categories but they make it up in price.
  • Oil & Natural Gas - Caria has oil and natural gas reserves both on land and in the sea. While enough for Caria's internal consumption and for minor to moderate exports they are not very big on the international stage, mainly selling to Caria itself and other industrial countries in its immediate region.
  • Tourism & Foreign Studies - Tourism is a massive part of Caria's economy, with hunderds of thousands if not millions of tourists visitng Caria's cities and countryside every year, both fore Caria's rich ancient heritage and modern Latinian-Gallo-Germanian culture, her mild weather, beaches and gorgeous scenery. Many foreign students also come the Caria's millennia old state-owned academies for various studies and since foreigners, unlike Carians, have to pay for tuition they generate income, though much less than tourism.
  • Agriculture, Vineyards & Fishing - Not to be understimated, while Caria might have all of these fancy industries the base of the Carian economy is agriculture, vineyards and fishing. Cattle, crop growing and fishing are Caria's oldest and strongest economic sectors, far exceeding Carian demand and going into exports too. In the agricultural department Caria has may unique, patented products, like Feta Cheese, Mastika and others. Carian wine is known for its quality, Carians themselves have it as an essential part of their diet, and it rnages from cheaper to more expensive prices, all with great quality. From Red and White wine to Ouzo, Raki and Tsipouro Carians have a soft spot for alcohol.
  • Trade - Caria has one of the biggest trade fleets in the world, as a traditionally seafaring nation. Trade is directly linked to all categories above, particularly fishing, and it is among the skills Carians are known for.
  • Banks - Caria has a very old banking sector. While not a major or even large international player, Caria does have solid and relatively safe banks, mainly known within its immidiate region. This does involve both law-abiding citizens, rich foreigners and Carians and states storing money in them and notorious tax evaders and other people who want to hide their money, all mainly from the Long Sea nations, putting them in Carian banks. This is probably the first thing anybody from the Long Sea thinks about when tehy hear of Carian banks.
  • Shipyards - Linked to both trade, fishing and the arms industry Caria has some of the largest shipyards in the long sea, producing many ships every year for Carian and foreign costumers.
  • Mercenaries - The Argyraspides, state sanctioned mercenaries, work for the Crown and for foreign or Carian clients approved by it, famed for their discipline and loyalty in accordance with the strict Carian Military Code, they are among the few of their kind left in the world. Recently Argyraspides were part of a Carian Military Mission to modernize Arakanese Armed Forces. Apart from military duties the Argyraspides provide security duties for both private clients and states, this is their most common service in the modern world. The name comes from the Silver Shields they bore in ancient times from Argyros (Silver) and Aspis (Shield).

All of these smaller industries combine to form a multi-sided Carian economy of average size for southern Eurodisney and great for a nation of Caria's size. Caria experienced many difficulties from the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, but with progressive measures and hard work Caria managed to overcome them and become even stronger and more competitive than it was before the crisis. The Carian currency is the Drachma, which replaced the old Tetradrachm in 1955 as part of the massive reforms to revitalize the economy.

Transport

Main articles: Transport in Caria

Caria has train, tram and car networks. Public transport is used by many civilians and the good weather favours walking, but due to Caria having a car industry with relatively cheap cars, car sales in Caria are increasing. Caria has many port cities and islands so ships and boats are commonly used for transport too. Caria also has military and civilian, international and national, airports in accordance with modern western standards. In fact Caria has so many airports many are being closed down as they are not needed. This is mainly due to the era when Caria was divided and the aerial buildup of the individual city states during the Civil War.
