The Slavic Empire of Golgothia being the multicultural state that it is, a variety of languages are used within its borders. The official function of each differs, as follows:

I. Russian: Russian is the common internal language of Golgothia. Internal government business, legislation, and speeches to the Golgothian people are all conducted in Russian, and it possesses the greatest number of native speakers.

II. English: English is the international language of choice for Golgothia. International dispatches, documentation intended for a foreign audience (such as this one), and foreign ministry business are all conducted in English.

III. Church Slavonic: The liturgical language of the national religion, the Golgothian Orthodox Church, Church Slavonic is the preferred language for theological communication. The Ministry of Religion's business is wholly conducted in Slavonic.

IV. Latin: Latin is the legal language of Golgothia. Legal proceedings are held in Latin, and all legal documents must be in Latin. The Department of Justice's business is entirely conducted in Latin.

In addition to these official governmental languages, a number of languages are given the designation of "promulgated languages"—these are recognized as important minority languages in Golgothia and an effort is made that government documentation be provided in these languages as well. Languages so designated are: Belarusian, Ukrainian, Czech, Slovak, Polish, Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Slovene, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Ancient & Modern Greek, Hebrew, Esperanto, and German.

Students in Golgothian schools are strongly encouraged to learn languages and are provided ample opportunity to do so. Schools are required to have language programs for each of the governmental languages and given additional funding if they offer promulgated languages. Because of this, and because of Golgothia's cultural diversity, 63% of adults report being able to speak at least two languages fluently, 44% at least three, 31% at least four, and 19% five or more.
