New Langsia (officially the Proletarian Republic of New Langsia, Langsian: Daikyousankyouwakokushinlangshia lit: Great Communist Republic of New Langsia) is a large island nation in The International Communist Union, residing primarily in the Laikon Sea. The country is renowned for its technological advancements and large population, topping 1.2 billion as of the 2013 census. The country is classified as a Proletarian Republic, meaning that New Langsia's economy and politics are under control of the workers and the Communist Party. Although recent political reforms have weakened the party-state apparatus, the CP-NL still has great decision making and planning roles in the country.

The country is a powerhouse education spender, devoted around 20% of its GDP to improving schools, and allowing every New Langsian citizen an opportunity to further their education and become what they want to be in life. Higher education is offered free of charge, and public high schools operate like boarding schools, providing dormitories in order to promote the best learning environment.

New Langsia is divided into six states (Maea, Taelia, Alsia, Andareia, Heialeia, and Nei), two autonomous republics (Neutopia, and Sarumeia), and two ocean supercomplexes (Laikon-Sun Major, and Oceania Major) all under a unitary state, in which the central government can create or disband divisions at will.

New Langsia has no armed forces, or military, as enshrined in Section 2, Article 9 of the New Langsian Constitution: "War shall not be an option of the state, neither are the means to declare it." Instead, The New Langsian People's Militia, formed and run by the people, are tasked with defense and serve as an informal 'military'

History

Discovery (1706)

On March 6th, 1706, a group of travelers aboard the vessel Geol from the Great Empires of the West came to an island that was exotic and foreign to their ways and very much different than the places and cities in which they grew up in. They became very curious and temporarily created a settlement on the island, named Shinkoku, roughly in the same place as present day Shinkyou. The settlers were called Langsians, for reasons never clear. They sought to explore the island and claim it for themselves, due to rich mineral deposits found on the island. However, they would meet with resistance.

Little did the original settlers know that there were two indigenous groups already inhabiting most of the island, the groups we could come to know as the Sarumeians, and the Hawaiians. Both peoples were peaceful unless provoked, and excelled at fishing and cooking. Initially, the settlers sought peaceful reconciliation with the settlers, a philosophy known to the Sarumeians as "Heiawamama" (Peace state), until a mistranslation led the leader of the settlement to call the tribes "vermin" and set off a war that with the current resources, the Langsians could not fight.

They called in their home countries, and so began the colonization and near systematic enslavement of the indigenous people, called 'Waruishokuminshi', or 'bad colony' in the indigenous language. The original colonists disagreed with this policy, and would set the tone of the colonist's struggles for years to come.
