The Arceusian Republic of Northern Sunrise Islands or Northern Sunrise Islands (or even Sunrise) is a massive, economically powerful nation at the north of Esportiva, ruled by current President Eric Fahrenheit with an even hand, and remarkable for its complete absence of social welfare. With a very sympathetic population of around 3.522 billion, without including its' Pokémon fauna, the Sunrisians are known as a joyful people that seemingly content themselves with little, with a thought of unity before all.

It is not entirely difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it's harder to see who rules the demands of Education, the Environment and Defense; while sectors like Gambling and Jewelry continue to be a higher point at the countries' economy. The average income tax rate is 61%, and even higher for the wealthy. Number-wise, Tourism is the biggest strength of the country economically, thanks to their fauna and always interesting flora; not to mention the tournaments hosted inside of it.

Religiously, Northern Sunrise Islands is a very open country, who while mostly dominated by Arceusism, a belief that links strongly to the nation's fauna; it is open to other religions, with Christianism being a second. The chosen national animal, the Vaporeon, is used as a nickname to all national squads and also featuring prominently at both the current National Flag and the Coat of Arms of the country. Their currency are the Islander Dollars (I$).

Etymology

The Sunrise Bay area was first documented by Licentian travellers on their way to other parts of Esportiva as a group of islands filled of vicious, uncivilized people though somewhat virtuous when interacted with. Supposedly, the reason for its' name was how the people that habited the area would wake up from the Sunrise automatically, as a sort of habit. The name would eventually name the region during the Confederacy of Sunrise, based on the belief that this would value the glorious past of the region.

The name would stay remain Sunrise until 1996, when then-unpopular leader Marty Arlington considered towards new ways of amassing monetary funds. It was then brought up that a more paradisical name would help the nation's tourism section and after some deliberation, the nation was renamed Sunrise Islands. The adjective Northern would only be added at 2009, under Matthew Sioux, who was then pressured by the Arceusian Social Party towards scriptures found on Tokyoto regarding what was then assumed to be a legend, the existence of other Sunrise Islands. Additionally, there was some belief that the world would only take the country seriously if there was a Northern somewhere around their name.

History

Broken Territories era (-1958)

Then known as the Islands of Sunrise Bay, a couple of Fallen Lands, who dropped from carriers ever since these lands switched regions. As a result, it became a cultural mishmash, with none of the existing populations being able to understand each other and thus, causing wars of all sorts. Oftenly, the Island of Mardi would show itself to be the most powerful one of the bunch, leaded by talented minds such as Jim De La Sangre and Leonard Dutch as they went on to do things such as creating a Mardian Empire, which consisted of Ayeville, Beart and Lynder as territories, at one point.

Counter-balancing with them, there were the Islands of Carnival and Amy. The first, a huge army with an indomitable spirit that would oftenly keep the Mardian threat away from their lands; the latter, a small army, equiped with more brilliance than Mardi, who would also enact events of courage as they would constantly trick Mardi on their attempts of adding their territory to their map.

Even more carrier issues would drop to the sea a couple of more islands, with even more difficulties to understand each other, with emphasis to Tokyoto; where, according to later studies, Pokémon were found at. They would later replace the original fauna of the country as Tokyoto would serve as the merchants of the Islands. Another relevant entrant was the Island of Maori, who even to this day remains as a special state of the country, speaking their own language, rarely speaking anything else. They were back then, the savage people that would slaughter any boat that ever dared to arrive there.

Maori, however, would open itself to the other islands slowly, during the reign of King Malamapunawaba the First, which conveniently clashed with The First Huelandian Invasion, as the then prospering kingdom of Huelandia would invade the Island of Nueva Atlantida (now known as Seaside), starting to target the other islands of the then-known as the Sunrise Bay. The Huelandian attempt wouldn't go too far, as the united forces of Amy, Carnival and Mardi (with huge help from Maori) would throw them out from their invaded territory. That was the first moment in which the islands contemplated the chance of becoming a sole entity.

That was the Confederacy of the Sunrise, a proposed union that wouldn't survive for too long, as Carnival wouldn't join it and two of its' members, Mardi and Tokyoto, would start a war one year after the Confederacy was proposed. The War, nowadays known as The Mardi Gras War, with a highlight being when Tokyoto invaded Mardi by the St. John Port and killed 55% of the then living population of Mardi City during Mardi Gras, their most important festival. The war ended with Mardi asking for treaty, following the election of Mist-born Madame Élise DuBeaux, who would agree to let Tokyoto live peacefully and also hand their traditional Mardi Gras party to Carnival, who helped Tokyoto beat Mardi, who would then rename it as "The Carnival", though Mardi would eventually run Mardi Gras again.

With the treaty in hand, DuBeaux would go to each island, discussing with their leaders and people, the possibility of becoming a sole country to protect themselves from outsider power, mainly the Licentians, an Esportivan power that could attack them any time. While failing to achieve her goal, the young leader of Mardi would however achieve a simple, but important event: The Sunrise Bay Treaty.

Sunrise Bay era (1958-1968)

Relatively short but very important, the Sunrise Bay Era would be a time of prosperity as the Islands would then start to actively work with each other, generating lots of improvement to the land. Headed by a 23-years old Élise DuBeaux, a highly popular and very smart leader, the country would unite themselves under the language of English, but with still enough care for other languages that were already powerful at the country.

The first technical University, the Mardi National University was founded, later earning the name of DuBeaux Academy, with a proper University being founded one year later becoming the National University, nowadays referred to as the National University at Mardi. Along those lines, the Sunrisians would, thanks to the market prowesses of Tokyoto, have Skateboarding as their major sport. On those days, as well, the people of Beart would find a lost treasure known as Ice Hockey and other regions would have Concrete Hockey, using Roller-Blades, a mix between the common skates of Ice Hockey and Skateboards. The sport would become the most important one of the Islands during the Sunrise Bay era.

Transport would be revolutionized by the use of Pokémon, a natural resource that seemed to be able to solve all issues. The Lapras Company of Tokyoto was created at 1960, to serve as an alternative to boats, continuing their job to this very day, earning the spot of number one preferred method of transportation at the country.

Politically, the Nekonians, humans with cat-like features would earn huge wins as they finally attained Political Rights and Sunrisian Citizenship at 1961, finally being represented by a party with the Progress of the Nekonians Party (POTNP), nowadays the Nekonian Party (NEKOP). It would also create the parties that we are most used to nowadays, the Green Sunrise Party, nowadays known solely as the Green Party (GREENP), the Worker's Party (WORP), the Sunrise Party, nowadays known as National Party (NATP) who were then gunning for an united land, theoretically named Sunriseland and the Republican Party (REP).

Peace, however, would die off at 1968, when Queen Emanuelle, the Pretty ordered a full force attack at the Sunrise, wanting to claim all territories there as the Eastern Huelandian Territories and as a way to attack other nations there. These would start another era, who like the Sunrise Bay era, was short but decisive to the Sunrise's destiny.

The Second Huelandian War (1968-1970)

A war that rolled for only two years, claimed many lives, mostly on the Huelandian side and also created a legend that would later help the creation of the Northern Sunrise Islands. The Second Huelandian War started when Queen Emanuelle, the Pretty; recently crowned following the death of her husband King Frottardo, the Eater had an incident with a steamroller, decided to move on to the Kingdom's targets quicker.

They would make a large attack on Seaside at January 5th, 1968. They would only continue, to the point where, by December, they managed to control a geometrical half of the lands of the Sunrise Bay. Mostly thanks to their no-holds-barred offense, the Huelandians would do anything to advance, even suicidal attacks only to progress their flag further. However, after one year of domination, the Huelandians would drop their efficient but dangerous tactics, but not coming up with anything else. This was a result of a clash between the Queen and Head of the Armed Forces, Lorde Miojo.

With the Huelandians deliberatively giving up, the Sunrisians would unleash a series of powerful attacks that would end in curb-stomp battles, starting a hole that would slowly grow to become the lack of power that would result on the break down of the Huelandian Empire. Following the total surrender of the Huelandian troops after their leader was killed, Madam DuBeaux would quickly go through the islands, together with the leader that led the powers of the Sunrise on their way to victory, an also very young and astute General James Byrd on their way to become a Republic.

The Young Republic era (1970-1990)

The first twenty years were of trial and error at most. The first governor, Madam Élise Byrd (nee-DuBeaux) would do a decent job, but there wasn't much to upgrade. After the four years of her government, her husband, the General James Byrd would only upgrade the Armed Forces, being the first one to allow Pokémon on the forces. The other three governments, that would finish that era, John Senile, Laurie Montroyal and Eduardo Almeida wouldn't do much either.

Culturally, this era would be the one to bring football into the borders of the Sunrise. Thanks to Ivan Azanovic, Boris Zhdanov and Slava Medvedev, three Mytannars, Football would slowly become the national sport of the country as Concrete Hockey would take a bump to nothingness. With teams such as Red Star Mardi, Mardi Gras and Lynder City, football was a promising matter at the nation's society. Also, the very first wrestling promotion would appear at Northern Sunrise Islands. With big names such as Mestre Almiro and Aprendiz Dimba, the Sunrise Wrestling League would impress the crowd.

The Darker Days (1990-2010)

After Alberto Ferreira was elected, the Worker's Party representative wouldn't last long enough as the president. After a mental breakdown, he would murder two ladies on the street before jumping on the front of a bus, dying from the impact. He would be replaced by Iago Dias, who would then be replaced by Marty Arlington, from the Green Party, who would fail to do any good impact at the ecological system of the Sunrise. Martin Sherbrooke would be elected and by eight years, he would only make it worst. He would however, move forward on the direction of chaos, until being stopped by the National Army who would then re-instate a new government at 2004. At 2006, however, Matthew Sioux would revert most of the damage made by Sherbrooke as the new president.

On the same matters, Culture and Economy would take strong damage, as the Football System ended thanks to ongoing fights between the major teams and the lesser sides. Tourism would take a huge blow thanks to the awful state of the country back then, something that would be then reversed on a good speed thanks to the Sioux government.

A New Sunrise (2010-2016)

With a powerful Minister of Sports, huge investments and a couple of new lands to boot, the Sunrise would develop thanks to the second government of Matthew Sioux and Thiago Souto, turning in one of the most developed nations of Esportiva. This new era is also dubbed as The Opening age or The Upgrade and would also feature a huge amount of contact with foreign nations, mainly those of the Emirates of Futurnia, including past enemies Huelandia.

The Sports would suddenly get back on track, with the Sunrise Championship for Football, the Sunrise Hockey League for Ice Hockey and later leagues such as the nsi.baseball, Sunrise Gridiron Football League and the Sunrise Cricket League would make the Sunrise a relevant country in many fields. It later would be followed by success on football and hockey, as the Vaporeons (once Marills, the football national team) and the Stars (the hockey national team) would make

Politically, Psychic Pokémon, also known as Sentient Pokémon would finally obtain Political Rights, later followed by the PokéParty (POKE). Land-wise, the Sunrisians would use the terrible economic crash of the Futurnian market to expand itself further, bringing even more islands into Esportiva, growing even bigger as a result. They would also ditch the old flag, now kept by the Armed Forces with the current design, called the Huelarus.

The Fahrenheit Years (2016-)

The supposed awakening of Kirigiri no Mikoto at Esportiva has somehow raised three different Sunrises on three different regions, one being Esportiva. The appearence of Southern, Western and Eastern Sunrise Islands at respectively Esportiva, Atlantian Oceania and Rushmore supposedly clashes with an Arceusian theory that says that the Northern Sunrise Islands were in fact, just a small part of a bigger empire that will eventually strike against the worse evil possible to a realm. While there hasn't been any worry regarding that problem, the Northern Sunrisians have been considering playing a Sunrise Islands team instead of the Northern Sunrise Islands football team, though there's no word on anything else.

Together with that event, Esportiva saw an uprise of fascism as the Corvax party grew on relevance, taking power on a decent group of countries, such as Yttribia and the Sarian. While Rütenbach and San Jose Guayabal quickly decided to start an alliance to overcome these opponents growing on the region, the Sunrisians decided not to bother much with the issue. However, the Corvax wouldn't stay out of Sunrise's view after the Saints of Sunrise, a separate group that co-exists with the government of Northern Sunrise Islands acting as a special power on Stilwater Island, decided to strike against the Corvax. Former leader Thiago Souto avoided the problem by simply avoiding any contact with the leaders from both sides, with new president Eric Fahrenheit simply stating that the Saints have full permission to go against the Corvax as they answer for themselves.

The Sunrisians have also seen another increase of land as the Sunrisians forced a small group of islands outside of Esportiva into being colonies, though most of the money they won on it has been wasted on turning those islands on better places. Football, once again, is playing a major part on keeping those colonies satisfied as the football pyramid has been increased for that end and the Sunrisians now have put some players from their colonies on their youth side national team until even that developed on bringing up a new star on Ruby, the wonder midfielder the Sunrisians have taken a liking for.

Eric Fahrenheit, once a Minister of Foreign Relations that has helped the Licentian Isles back when fascism was a problem with them, has been elected under the National Party banner to end Thiago Souto's period as president and somehow has already made his mark as the president, showing himself to be rather rough and keeping up a "badass" image while being a political mastermind. Nicknamed "The Drunk Politic" thanks to his abit of nonchatantly drinking during speeches, he has been the main reason why politics gained so much interest as of late inside the country.

Eventually, the Sunrisians ended up getting themselves involuntarily inside the Corvidae War, though on a quick strike, the Special Forces of the Sunrise finished up the task and aided the small Mertagne on the elimination of the regime led by Lex Crowley on the Inevitable Syndicate. There's not much knowledge of what the Special Forces plan to do next, though the Sunrisians may have developed some sort of belief that Arceus guided them to act on that situation.

Politics

The politics of Northern Sunrise islands take place in a framework of a federal presidential representative democratic republic, whereby the President is both head of state and head of government, and of a multi-party system. The political and administrative organization of Northern Sunrise Islands comprises the federal government, the states and the municipalities, regardless of its' situation as either a city or a town, something determined by their amount of population.

The federal government exercises control over the central government and is divided into three independent branches: executive, legislative and judicial. Executive power is exercised by the President, advised by a cabinet. Legislative power is vested upon the Sunrisian Congress, a two-chamber legislature comprising the Senate and the Deputy. Judicial power is exercised by the judiciary, consisting of the Supreme Court, the Superior Court, the National Justice Council and the State Courts.

The states are autonomous sub-national entities with their own constitutions and governments that, together with the other federal units, form the Arceusian Republic of Northern Sunrise Islands. Currently, Northern Sunrise Islands is divided politically and administratively into 39 states, with the other four remaining islands (Cinnabar, Mink, Resort and Steelport) acting as extensions of the domains of Notaiba (Cinnabar), Camelot (Mink and Resort) and Stilwater (Steelport). The executive power is exercised by a governor elected to a four-year term. The judiciary is exercised by courts of first and second instance addressing the common justice. Each State has a unicameral legislature with deputies who vote state laws. The legislative assemblies supervise the activities of the Executive power of the states and municipalities.

The municipalities are minor federal units of the Arceusian Republic of Northern Sunrise Islands. Each municipality has an autonomous local government, comprising a mayor, directly elected by the people to a four-year term, and a legislative body, also directly elected by the people; though two cities of the country don't have a government that works under that format, such as Mardi, whose mayor function is automatically handed to the President and the Holy City of New Twinleaf, whose mayorship is awarded to the Holy Trainer of the Arceusian Church, with the government being handed to the mayor of Manami Toyota, a neighbor city, whenever the Arceusian Church needs to pick a new Trainer.

A special department exists for colonies, since they are not states under the constitution, but still represent an area of Northern Sunrise Islands and as so, they are governed by the department, elected by the president after the National Elections.

Parties

The Political Parties of Northern Sunrise Islands are commonly associations of state parties that work under one flag for the National Elections. Originally, to avoid inflation of parties, a new political party would have to consist of several parties for each political state of Northern Sunrise Islands and then have at least 35% of the Sunrise's population signing for approval of the country to run for elections.

In 2021, however, it was noted that people simply didn't care about the politics of Northern Sunrise, with the country managing to run itself almost perfectly. As a result, the process was made more open to different parties with different points of view. This loophole was abused by foreigners with problems against others. Funnily enough, they ended up balancing themselves out as a result.

Geography

Northern Sunrise Islands is an archipelago of forty-three islands that tend to be pretty similar at most things. The common Sunrisian island is a regular piece of land that includes at least three rivers passing through it. Those rivers tend to be thin, though somewhat of deep at the center. Not all parts of the country, however, follow that pattern. Lynder is known mostly for being a tall mountain on the middle of the sea, with low temperatures. The island is also said to be cold thanks to the big number of Ice-type Pokémon that live around there.
