The Kingdom of Zuugua is a democratic socialist Monarchy The country is situated in the newly formed region Dragonmere, of which it is also the founder of.

With a total population of 7,000,000, and an estimated GDP of NS$14,077,300,000 ("T"143 Billion), the nation is fairly small, yet it is growing steadily. Since its founding in 1625, Zuugua has moved regions three times, and has resided in the region of Dragonmere for the last century.

The Kingdom of Zuugua is particularly well known for its monarchy; the Ambrose family have ruled over the country since its founding. However, there have been periods of time where their rulings have been challenged, such as the Zuuguan Civil War ("1697 - 1724") and the infamous "Battle of the Burning Sea".

Most recently, the country is looking to expand its influence both within the Dragonmere region and the wider world, and in 1964 became a member of the World Assembily in order to achieve this.

The party currently in power are the Zuuguan Social Democrats, the leader being LEADER NAME serving directly under the King as Prime Minister. LEADER NAME has been in power for two years out of the maximum three he is allowed to serve.

Founding and General History

In 1625, 12 travellers found themselves stuck in a plush, green forest landscape after food supplies and morale started to run low. The leader, and future founding King, NAME decided that they would stop for a few months to plant the seeds they had and to recouperate, however they found themselves permanently located there after many had built homes and farms. Young people fell in love and had children, giving way to the next generation of Zuuguans, and within twenty years, the population was thriving above 500. The population grew even further when another group of travellers stumbled upon the early Zuuguan settlement in 1652, and after many decided that they could not travel any further from exaustion, they stayed. However, as more and more people became part of early Zuugua, the diversity and beliefs of the citizens grew vast; many did not always believe in the same political ideals. This gave way to the Zuuguan Civil War of 1607 - 1724 between supporters of the Monarchy, King NAME and Queen NAME, and newcomer supporters of an anti-Monarchy government. In 1616, King NAME was assassinated and Queen NAME taken prisoner by the Anarchists, leading to an eight year rule by the Anti-Monarchy Political Party. The civil war eventually ended in 1724 after the King and Queen's son arrived from exile with soldiers from neighboring allied countries and reclaimed the throne as his own. The Ambrose family have ruled Zuugua ever since the reclaim to the throne in 1724.

Geography

Zuugua is mainly made up of grassy flatlands and forested regions in the north, however it is also notorious for its barren, inhospitable landscapes in the south. The northern province, Calaharia, is mostly fertile farmland and green forests, where the mountain goat can often be seen lurking (especially in the more mountainous, forested region at the very north border) and is where the majority of the population resides. It is also where the capital city Eriedge is located. The southern province, Ashia, is vast and inhospitable, with a hot and dry desert climate. This is where less than 9% of the population live and those who are able to survive are mainly miners as this is where the uranium mines are. There is a small population of cattle farmers nearer the north of Ashia. Zuugua has a very vast and diverse ecology, with over 12,000 types of plant species and 450 mammal species. On top of this, 320 bird species have been identified as well as 60 reptile species. In the most northern, mountainous areas the national animal, the Mountain Goat, can be spotted.

Provinces

Zuugua has two provinces, Calaharia and Ashia, as well as the capital Eriedge.

Future

The Kingdom of Zuugua currently plans to focus its interests on developing the region of Dragonmere into a sizeable and powerful region, with much influence. It also has plans for social reforms and educational policies to be rolled out in the next few years.

Government, elections and politics

The Zuuguan political system relies heavily on the authority and leadership of the King and Queen equally, but also on a citizen-elected Prime Minister. Ultimately, the Monarchy has the power to decide the fate of the country, however the current Prime Minister serves as the representative of the people and holds the responsibility of presenting national opinion to the royals. On top of this, there is a parliment of citizen-elected MPs, who represent 58 local areas within Zuugua's two provinces. The Prime Minister is the Head of Government, elected every three years. As previously stated, the Prime Minister serves as the representative of the people, and has a duty of notifying the Monarchy of matters that the people find important. He or She is also responsible for holding parliamentary debates and notifying the King of decisions made by the Cabinet of MPs. A person can only run for Prime Minister if they are a member of the Cabinet. The Cabinet of MPs are selected by an election process in each local area. A five month election campaign is run every seven years to choose new Members of Parliament to stand in the Cabinet, and the winners from each of the 58 areas in Zuugua are selected. Each area can have only one MP. The Cabinet of MPs is made up of 58 Members of Parliament (as well as a speaker selected by the Prime Minister and approved of by the King).

Languages

The official languages of Zuugua are Zuuguan English and French, as these were the main languages of the original settlers. Certain towns in Aisha speak British English, due to a mass immigration of British nationals during the late 1700s. It is mandatory for all children to learn both Zuuguan English and French at school until the age of 16, with many deciding to carry on studying them until 18 (When Zuuguan children are recognised as adults and are allowed to graduate). This has led to a large portion of the population being bilingual in the last three decades. On top of this, many students opt to learn a third language - usually either Italian or Dutch.
