Etymology
Wadiya is the name that originally referred to the "Wadiyans", who were a nomadic offshoot of the Berbers in the Horn of Africa. The name Wadiya is believed to come from the Arabic words "wa" and "dihya" which translates to "the victims." This name was given due to the Wadiyans belief that they were victimized by the Berbers and led to their need for self-rule and ultimately an attempt at imperialism which failed.
