Rising out of the ashes of the corrupt, inefficient and happily now defunct Olympic Committee, the Olympic Authority of Sargossa (OAS) is the body that governs the nation’s Olympic commitments. Led by Ricardo Aranda, the OAS Executive comprises the heads of the various governing bodies that oversee sport across the Greater Republic. In addition to its Olympic obligations the OAS also promotes the development of athletes and training of coaches and officials at a national level within the sports its represents.

Since the debacle at the Sixth Summer Games in Lasft great strides have been taken to bring a much more professional approach to the governance of sport. Football, in the form of the SuperLiga, has always been Sargossa’s national game and, although that is unlikely to change, other sports have seen a sharp rise in popularity. Both the Azure (Athletics) and Azul (Aquatics) Leagues attract massive crowds, the Tennis Championship has seen a surge in numbers and the Volleyball league has never been more fashionable. The creation of the OAS’s showpiece event, the Games Of The Greater Republic, has further helped to firmly entrench sport in the national consciousness. And with increased popularity comes increased participation, which in turn widens the scope for finding talent to compete at the elite level. Something Aranda and the OAS are very happy about.
