On October 14th a combined force of Narsoran/Haiyanese special forces captured FALN leader  Fermín Américo Santiago, in the border city of Kēndrīya sīmā near the ''Red Zone''; a military buffer-like zone set up at the beginning of the insurgency in 2009. Santiago is believed to have been attempting to leave the country, and was found by government forces hiding in a small house. On the 15th, faced with being surrounded by the army and the capture of their commander over 200 insurgents surrendered in the town of Alaga śahara, these two-hundred are believed to be the last remaining militant forces in the conflict.

Operation Lightning Bolt was carried out in response to the Air Narsora Flight 135 Hijacking, in order to hunt down the insurgent group responsible.

Beginning

The operation was preceded by extensive air strikes, which killed unknown numbers of insurgents.

Operation

On October 10th around 2,000 soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division were sent to southern narsora. On the 11th narsoran and haiyanese forces retook the town of Hwypt was recaptured from insurgents after two days under FALN control.
