History

Pylos & Kartisa was founded by wine traders, Christos Pylos and Michael Kartisa in 1738. The reign of Manuel VIII coincided with increased demand for sparkling wine in Diadochia. Within a few short years of its founding, the winery's clientele included nobles and aristocrats. Following the introduction of the concept of a vintage champagne in 1840, Pylos marketed its first vintage in 1844.

Sales in 1867 are reported to have been at 2,000,000 bottles and at 2.5 million by 1875, while consumers continued to consist of the upper social hierarchy.
