a. Redentran Musescorian is the most prominent of these, and is used throughout the mainland and Blue Island. Zðelmjor is spoken in the Southern Tribal Zone codominantly, and Mitazanda is codominant in the south of Blue Island. In the exclaved city of Grebnujay, Elmorican is the most common language.
b. In locations near the border, the Ainguximoqrunian Rhuli or the Galethen Acra are accepted by some vendors.
c. Blue Island uses Blue Island Time (MBIT; UTC+7¾). The city of Grebnujay uses Central Elmorican Time (CELT; UTC-5).
d. Zdelmyor has never used DST. Since the Musescorian DST Summit in January 2016, Thermapole and Mityazyanda and Penzer do not use DST. Wirthal and Umalura enter DST in October, and leave in April. The city of Grebnujay uses Central Elmorican Daylight Time (CEDT; UTC-4). Grebnujay enters daylight savings time in April, and leaves in October.
e. 80 is the calling code for the Lands of Mjuzskorrun. 0 is Redentro's subcode. Grebnujay uses the subcode 9, which is for overseas holdings of Musescorian countries.

Redentro /rʌ.ˈdɛːn.troʊ/ (mj: Redentro; /ɾɛ.ˈdɛn.tr̥o/) (officially the Grand Commonwealth of Redentro) is a Democratic Monarchy encompassing the northeastern part of the Island of Music and the entirety of Blue Island. Its southernmost section borders Galethen, and the northernmost part of its western border is shared with Mhuvalja-Ainguximoqrun. The majority of its western border, however, is not shared with another nation, but with the uninhabited central desert, which is not claimed by any nation. Redentro's capital, Thermapole, is a large port city.

Redentro is a democratic monarchy, and is renowned for its unique governmental system, consisting of a national king, and two congresses, one executive, and the other legislative. The nation scores 67 on the WA Human Development Index (WAHDI), on par with the world average. Its citizens are consistently shown by the WA as the happiest in the region, with a 7-day average Relative Cheerfulness Rating of 10.7. The nation, like many in the region, is very cultured, scoring 31 on the Snufflebottom–Wiggendum Pentatonic Scale.

Redentro maintains the lowest nominal defense budget in the region, and is a member of the World Assembly and the Musescorian Regional Conference.

Etymology

The name Redentro comes from the ancient Ghrxingkliþo word "Rhdentaro," which means "The people rest." The name was originally only applied to Redentro City, and then, as more people moved to the new governmental area and formed new towns, to the entire area, then called the City-State of Redentro. As more governments split off, the City-States of Redentro, Penzer, and Wirthal became known collectively as the Redentran City-States. In 2006, when Wirthal, Penzer, Redentro, Thermapole, the Mitazandan Zone, and the Southern Tribal Zone were united under a single government, the conference settled on Redentro as a name for the entire new country.

History

Antiquity

The first records existing from the area are ancient codices from the Zðelmjor that used runelike characters that are still used by the Mitazandan language. From these writings, it can be determined that the Zðelmjor had a very complex religion involving ritual music and dances of immense complexity. The Zðelmjor also had very complex trade relations with the other two major tribes, the Mitazanda and the Gershingklitho.

At some indeterminate point in history, a large faction split off of the Gershingklitho in present-day Crejanh.

This faction moved north and settled very near the Zðelmjor, in present-day Wirthal, and became very close traders with the Zðelmjor. Meanwhile, the Mitazanda became more independent, and left the Island of Music for a more remote land. The Mitazanda landed at the southernmost part of Blue Island, where they were isolated from further contact with the Zðelmjor. They moved east and settled at the southeast corner of the island in permanent settlements. The primary settlement was called Themgur, and shortly thereafter, a secondary settlement, called Glabjur, was built.

Colonial Ages

In 1187, Jargaða Umalura became dissatisfied with the nomadic ways of the Gershingklitho. Realizing that permanent settlement in that location was not (at the time) possible, he and several others began searching for a place to build a permanent settlement. He and his team traveled first to the Zðelmjor, and stayed with them for several years, learning their language to some extent, and in 1191, Umalura moved on. His poor memory of the Zðelmjor language lead to a combination of Zðelmjor and Gershingklitho, which he called Mjuzskoriðo, from the Gershingklitho word "Mjuzskor," meaning "A Sharing of Culture," with the Musescorian suffix -iðo. He proceded to found Redentro City in 1192AD, and established himself as its king.

In 1382, Selem Sintrand, a skilled Redentran horn player, decided to create a utopia. The king of Redentro at the time, Numal Umalura, believed that he would be unable to find enough people to support his new nation, and so made a deal with him that if he could find a hundred people who shared his ideals, Umalura would finance the project and Sintrand could have an independent nation. Sintrand took only four weeks to achieve the requisite support, and so in early 1383, Sintrand and his supporters left Redentro to found Ainguximoqrun.

Three years later, Numal Umalura died, leaving no next-of-kin to take the throne, and so a new king, Zjulken Ẋgavnjur, assumed the Redentran throne after being chosen in a lottery, famously called afterwards "the Lottery of Lost Luck." Ẋgavnjur started a regime of fear, in which spies were ubiquitous, and political dissidents were executed. People who were suspected to know anything about political dissent were called upon to give information to the king, and were killed if they refused.

Out of this political ruin rose Gupþbana Penzer, who decided to leave the city-state in 1422. He left behind secret instructions to any who wished to leave on how to find the settlement which Penzer was building. For a while, the Redentran government did not realize that anything was happening, but eventually, the stream of disappearing people became a mass exodus, with hundreds of residents leaving each day. Finally, a supporter of Ẋgavnjur found the new city, and the king issued an ultimatum. Ẋgavnjur felt that, since Penzer was a Redentran subject, the new settlement should be part of the city-state of Redentro, as had been the case with all settlements in the past (except Ainguximoþrun). Penzer, obviously, disagreed. This started the First Penzer-Redentro War in 1459.

The war lasted until Ẋgavnjur's son, Domnar Ẋgavnjur died in 1500, again leaving behind no next-of-kin. In July, a new king, Njungal Zeljona was elected by the Redentran people to be the next king. In the first year of his rule, Zeljona and 'Aryno Jolda, the second king of Penzer, signed the first Penzer–Redentro Treaty, stating that Penzer would be a separate city-state, and would not be subject to Redentran law, but would be required to be open about its domestic policy, and would have to accept free commute from Penzer to Redentro and vice-versa.

The Imperial Age

In 1558, Kibla Zuman felt that the city-state of Redentro was becoming overpopulated, and so asked Markovy Zeljona, the king of Redentro, if he would be permitted to found a new nation to solve the problem. Zeljona agreed, and Zuman took three hundred people and went south. He founded the city and the city-state of Wirthal, named after the river that flowed through the city. Zuman, however, did not remain in the city, and instead lived with the nomadic Gershingklitho in the area.

1569 brought the founding of the city of Neue Wien and Neue Österreichreich by Johan Mandreten II, who established himself as a fascist dictator who slaughtered native Mitazanda by the hundreds, nearly decimating their population.

In 1601, Jelmath Thjumnar traveled to Neue Wien and overthrew Mandreten. He renamed both the colony and the city Þhrmapayljy, which is a Zðelmijor word meaning "This I have saved from harm."

Recent History

213 wars ensued amongst the Redentran City-States (Redentro, Penzer, and Wirthal) and between Wirthal and what is now the Southern Tribal Zone between Thjumnar's takeover in Thermapole and 2006, the most recent (the 112th Penzer-Redentro War) between the City-State of Penzer and the City-State of Redentro, ending in 2005.

After the war ended, Uymaynjo Þhrmapoljayn, the King of Thermapole, decided that it was time for a treaty to be signed between the Redentran City-States, and so he requested the presence of the kings Mitjuven Umazonugazi, Pitjel Gazvjolna-Penzer, and Jolgaðni Þarganzu to try to arrange a treaty of sorts.

In January of 2006, High Priest Gazmjenju Jelgjenzum of the Zðelmijor contacted Þhrmapoljayn to ask to be included in the session, and in February, Lord Priest Jumjunja Kenjuvazja of the Mitazanda made the same request. Both leaders were invited to participate in March. Upon their arrival, Þhrmapoljayn decided that perhaps the best solution would be to unite into one country, and in December of that year, an agreement was reached which established the city of Þhrmapayljy as the capital and a ten-year electoral kingship amongst the five kings (Jelgjenzum was given the title king; Kenjuvazja abdicated in favor of merging with Thermapole creating Thermapole and Mityazyanda).

In July of 2013, the government of the Republic of Ainguximoqrun collapsed, so the Redentran Government formed an interim government, the Protectorate of Redentran Ainguximoqrun, while professional politicians, idealists, and former ambassadors of Redentro worked with the people of Ainguximoqrun to design and implement a new government in Ainguximoqrun, the Republic of Mhuvalja-Ainguximoqrun, which went into effect on January 2, 2014.

Geography

Redentro is located on the northeastern part of the Island of Music (Rondarun keRhunẋi) and also consists of the entirety of Blue Island off the Eastern coast of the Island. The country's area is 551,041km2 (212,758 sq mi).

Redentro shares borders with the Republic of Mhuvalja-Ainguximoqrun and the Empire of Galethen. A large portion of the border is coastal, and another large portion is adjacent to unclaimed lands, either the Central Desert of the Island of Music to the East of the mainland, or the Elmorican Wild Lands surrounding the city of Grebnuje on all sides.

The Country is bounded on the south by the Suspended Mountain Range, consisting of remarkably short and steep mountains with the easiest pathway through them (apart from the Hplunjaza Tunnel) including a stretch at 62° above parallel. In many places, erosion has caused the slope of the mountains to be greater than 90°, with the steepest stretch reaching 162°. The highest point in Redentro is the peak of the mountain called Njepinzjuu-Terjaago, which is the now-extinct volcano that formed Blue Island. The peak of the mountain is 6.81 km (4.23 mi ) above sea level.

The largest river in Redentro is the Blue River (Mjuzskorian: Zuala Fjum), which starts in the Suspended Mountain Range near the Central Desert in unclaimed territory and flows mostly east, carving the border between many cities.

Environment

While the deserts in the northern part of mainland Redentro, between Penzer, the Northeast District, and Wirþal are mostly desolate as a result of the never-ending warfare that took place there for a long time, there are many vestiges of natural beauty, including much of the Blue River (Zuala Fjum) in the Northeast District and Penzer.

Zuala Fjum. AprhFjum, Northeast District is visible on the right side.

The Zdelmyor District contains many naturally preserved sites, since 30% of the district is protected for the native Zdelmyor, including the entirety of Vosk Amaskuraþ, which is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful sights in Redentro.

While Thermapole and Mityazyanda does not have a large number of natural sites, one of the most spectacular things that people who travel to the region by boat can look forward to is disembarking in the massive natural cave underneath the city of Thermapole which is now used as a harbor. When the island was formed, the part of the island where Thermapole is now was formed of very soft clay, and above that a thick layer of hard volcanic rock, upon which a layer of dirt and sediment formed. The clay eroded out from under the rock, leaving behind a three-square-mile circular opening underneath the island.

Climate

Redentro has a subtropical to Mediterranean-like climate, with average winter temperatures between 12°C (54°F) in the District of Redentro to 22°C (72°F) in the Southern Tribal Zone and coastal Thermapole, and average summer temperatures between 26°C (79°F) and 34°C (93°F).

Government

There are four primary parts of the government of Redentro. They each have different roles in the government. The Executive Congress is responsible for enforcing legislation and allocating budgeted and additional funds. The Legislative Congress is responsible for the creation of legislation. The Royal Council is responsible mainly for handling foreign affairs and being a nominal head of state, but is also in charge of disbursing Public Interest Funds, which are used to fund such things as road reconstruction, environmental restoration, cultural preservation, public safety, and museums. The Redentran Court is responsible for upholding equality and justice even above the law and approving judges to run courts. Both the Court and the Royal Council also have the power to name a person a member of the Redentran nobility.

Executive Congress

The Executive Congress is elected to a five year term using an instant runoff voting system. There are 280 executive congressmen who each represent a district of Redentro based on its population. The current distribution is:

  • Redentro: 85
  • Wirthal: 60
  • Penzer: 32
  • NSP: 34
  • ÞLM: 68
  • Grebnuċh: 1

The Executive Congress is tasked with collecting taxes, proposing and passing a budget, and allocating non-budgeted funds (which come from luxury and sales taxes, the latter being charged on imported goods). They additionally have the responsibility to organize the so-called executive services, including ORkA, ORVIX, the Mail Office, and the medical doctors' registrar. The Executive Congress also is directly responsible for the Treasury.

Legislative Congress

The Legislative Congress is elected to a five year term using an Instant Runoff voting system. Unlike the Executive Congress, one fifth of the members are replaced every year, cycling through the seats. There are 700 legislative congressmen who each represent a district of Redentro based on its population. The current distribution is:

  • Redentro: 213
  • Wirthal: 150
  • Penzer: 79
  • NSP: 87
  • ÞLM: 170
  • Grebnuċh: 1

The Legislative Congress is tasked with passing laws to protect people's rights and to create regulations on commerce, environment, and also to organize regulatory commissions, like the Environmental Regulation Commission and the Public Safety Commission.

Royal Council

The Royal Council consists of the five Kings of Redentro: the Kings of Redentro, Wirthal, Penzer, the NSP, and Thermapole and Mitazanda. The Elected King of the Commonwealth presides over the Royal Council and has two votes in the council, one for his district and the other for the country as a whole. Presently, the royal council consists of:

The Royal Council is responsible for allocating public interest spending, spending which is used by the national government to improve people's lives in Redentro, and public interest subsidies, which are subsidies to district governments that are doing the same thing. The Royal Council also has the power to declare a person to be a member of the nobility of Redentro.

Court

The Court is responsible for verifying that laws are fair and just, and for establishing lower tribunals and reviewing judges. The Court consists of nine members, three appointed by the Executive Congress, three by the Legislative Congress, and three by the Royal Council. These members may be removed by either the assembly that instated them or by a consensus of two thirds of each of the other assemblies.
