Aeolis (Greek: Αἰολἰς; Hungarian: Eolísz; Æsternðaal: Æolís; Nordagaardian: Aelís) is an Earth-like world that orbits the star Elysium, 2000.1 light years from Sol. The planet is the largest of the four in the Elysium solar system and is the only one that was originally eligible for human settlement.

Geography

Satellite map of Aeolis

Aeolis is a massive world, approximately four times as large as the Earth. That makes its geography quite diverse. However, it is generally cooler and much more mountainous that the Earth, which means that there are less plains and deserts. Instead, the mountainous terrain is lush and green on both the continents of Lention and Sanctum. The remaining two continents Erelion and Zetron are quite cold. Erelion in particular is in its entirety sovereign territory of the Kingdom of Aesterngard and is highly advanced. Zetron on the other hand is an empty barren waste, very similar to Antarctica on Earth.

History

Aeolis was discovered in 2154 by Greek astronomer Alexander Papadopoulos. Greece acquired colonization rights and within a few years commissioned the 17th Colonization Fleet to colonize the planet for Greece. However, after a pirate attack, the colonists were left stranded on the planet with no way to contact the rest of the world. Greece abandoned all further plans to colonize the planet or the solar system and the colonists were believed to be dead.

By 2200 the survivors consolidated into a state that came to become Rethymnon. In 2277, the nation managed to restore contact with the rest of human society and colonization rights opened for all territories on the planet not controlled by the Empire of Rethymnon. Within a few decades, 7 new nations came to exist on the planet. Currently all land on the planet is occupied with the notable exception of Zetron, the southernmost, frozen continent of the planet. The 8 nations that are on the planet are the following

The Aeolian Conference is the equivalent of the WA on Aeolis. Whenever the nations have important international issues to discuss, they meet in the neutral city of Thalasseia, which lies in the middle of the Aesterngardian Sea on an artificial island.
