Malibu Islands is an historic region of NationStates. At one time a large and bustling empire with more than 50 nations spanning multiple continents, it has since morphed into a rather small and quiet tropical paradise. Today the region consists of only several island chains in the Eastern Hemisphere, and a vast subcontinent to the north. The Southern Malibu Islands, a considerably smaller region comprising just a few tiny atolls, lie to the south. Most of the island region is colonial and politically associated with Antarctic Oasis and affiliated nations. Malibu Islands is famous for its gorgeous tropical climate, lavish vacation resorts, beach volleyball, and frequent celebrity sightings and tabloid fodder -- as well as being the setting for many popular beer commercials.

History
The original founder of Malibu Islands was Prime Zeus. During the islands' heyday the (ironically named) delegate was Happy Euphoria. The region was a member of ACCEL, which made it a target for raiders.
Malibu Islands peaked perhaps a bit too soon after its founding in 2005 and rapidly slid into decline; by the end of 2005 it was mostly deserted. A subsequent occupation by some reject losers lasted more than a year, but the region was eventually refounded in 2007, thereafter becoming a mostly colonial region under the protection of Antarctic Oasis, which undertook its refounding.
War was visited on the region in 2008, when Poivre Atoll, an island then controlled by Altanar, declared independence, sparking an armed backlash that attracted the involvement of several Antarctic nations (as Altanar's Antarctic territories were also at issue). The conflict ended in a political settlement whereby Poivre Atoll and Antarctic Altanar became autonomous constituent countries within a new Altani federation.
Over the years the islands have attracted various vacationing celebrities -- with swarms of paparazzi in their wake -- such as cricketer Benny Enchante, Princess Jianna of Gruenberg, and "models" (to use the term loosely) Antigone Morgan and Alex Tehrani. Palentine Co-Empress Jhessan opened a beach volleyball resort on a tiny island named for her, where disgraced Kennyite President Manuelo Fernanda fled in 2012 to escape prosecution for attempted murder, and where the reality series Who Wants to Marry an Empress? was filmed. Several Malibu Islands countries have also played host to film shoots as part of AO delegate competitions (which are also reality shows).
International bitchfights[1] [2] and election scandals[3] have recently involved the region.

Malibu Islands is a minuscule region, inhabited by a sole nation.
The straight-backed, broad-smiling populace of Malibu Islands eagerly dismissed concerns of oppression. Denizens generally have very few political freedoms, but some limited freedom is afforded to citizens of nations in the region. It’s the economy, stupid... and in this region, it’s massive. Income taxes are unheard of amongst the denizens of the region. The region is a beacon of capitalism, with the public sector not existing in any meaningful way in constituent economies. Stoking commercial activity is a major priority for governments, accounting for an average of 9% of public expenditure.
In Malibu Islands education, when conducted, is done with sticks and mud. The region's law enforcement is arguably too well-equipped and overzealous, arresting citizens who dare to commit the most minor of infractions. Defense is an overarching priority for governments within the region. One might suggest they are compensating for something. Due to the lack of any Public transport, streets are packed with cars, bikes, and assorted noisy vehicles.
Nobody really knows about the state of administration in Malibu Islands. Observers asked for information, but found nobody was available to take calls. Hospital patients are given credit checks upon passing through emergency rooms, as no government provision is made for healthcare in the region. No welfare is provided in the region. Those unlucky enough to fall into unemployment are forgotten and abandoned. Spirituality is a major priority of governments in the region, with a relatively high average of 3% of government budgets being devoted to Spirituality.
In Malibu Islands, Social inequality is total, with wealth being held by a tiny fraction of the region's populace. The landscapes of the region are no longer recognizable as such, the atmosphere being unbreathable and the only jungles being made of concrete.
Notable nations
Gruenberg -- A theocratic sultanate encompassing subcontinental Malibu, and the dominant economic power in its region. Gruenberg is famous for goats, environmentally poisonous petrochemical firms such as GruenChem, goats, third-world tendencies, spoiled-brat royals, a nationwide cricket obsession, goats, and goat-shaped food products. The current head of state is Sultana Jianna Woltzten I.
Tiki Taki -- A tribal and culturally primitive tropical island, Tiki Taki is a "self-governing nation" in "free association" with Omigodtheykilledkenny. The Kennyites invaded the island in 2005, and have stuck around to this day, mostly because they like the nude beaches (which aren't actually "nude"; Taki Tikis just don't wear a lot of clothes).
Co-Empress Jhessan -- The eponymous island playground of The Palentine's ubiquitous ruler, who still manages to get in a few games with the girls -- and the occasional quickie with her boytoy Manuelo -- despite shouldering immense responsibilities ruling two countries and raising two adorable, test-tube-conceived children. Her private compound includes a lavishly furnished lodge, a swimming pool, tennis courts, hiking/cycling trails, an outdoor sports complex, and multiple regulation beach-volleyball courts.
Poivre Atoll -- A now-sovereign state within (whatever Altan's name is this week). Things have calmed down considerably here since the 2008 revolt...so calm in fact we're not quite sure the country still exists. We'll get back to you on that.
La Nostra Famiglia -- A Mafia-controlled resort island, swimming in mob-movie references and Italian-American stereotypes.
New Godwinnian Isles -- an overseas territory of the nation St Edmund. We don't really know what they do all day over there in their little archipelago, but they've been around forever, so they must be doing it well.
- There were previously a few more islands belonging to Snefaldia and other AO-affiliated nations, the names and addresses of which having since been misplaced.
