The SVP-21 Oswald is an advanced fourth-generation main battle tank designed by NG-OA on request by the Andrennian Royal Army. It was the first tank to be named after Oswald the Great, the first King of Andrenne. The SVP-21 is intended to fully replace the SVP-15 by 2021.
The SVP-21 was designed in early 2012, and the first tank, the PZ-2112 was produced in late 2012. It was tested in 2013, and was approved, but was not actually put into use until early 2014 when the SVP-21a1 was made the new standard main battle tank of Andrenne. The SVP-21 is widely regarded as one of the quickest, if not the quickest main battle tank ever put into service with Andrenne.
History
Background
In 2012, the Royal Andrennian Army decided to update it's tank force to prepare better for 21st century warfare with a new series of main battle tank, getting away from the SVP-1 series which had been in service in multiple variations since 1970.
Development
In late 2011, the Royal Army called for a completely new, modern tank. They began to design the SVP-16, however they were stopped by the Royal Andrennian Army due to them wanting a brand new tank rather than a continuation of the SVP-1 series. Jonas Stellden designed a hull for a potential Series 2 tank, which would later become the SVP-21. Though not accepted at first, he resubmitted his design a month later, and it was accepted. They then began work on a turret, which Stellden also designed. Design continued from there, until eventually the SVP-21 became what it is today. The SVP-21 was produced in 2014, however it wasn't revealed to the public until mid 2014, on May 17th.
Service
The SVP-21 has yet to see any service due to Andrenne not being involved in any wars since 2011, however it has been demoed and shown off at various parades, expos, and other public events.
Variants
- PZ-2112P - Prototype version of the SVP-21 produced in 2012.
- SVP-21X1 - Experimental version produced in 2013 for testing.
- SVP-21a1 - Standard variant from 2014-2017.
- SVP-21a2 - Standard variant from 2017-Present. Nordgewihs PZky. 120/6.35 cannon replaced with Nordgewihs PZky. 122/6.7, Royal Andrennian Army introduces 122mm shell as alternate standard tank round, yet to fully replace the 120mm. Roughly half of the current force of SVP-21's have been given the upgrade.
