The SVP-21 Oswald is an advanced third-generation main battle tank designed by NG-OA on request by the Andrennian Royal Army. It was the first tank to be named after Oswald the Great, the first King of Andrenne, AKA the Last Pagan King,AKA the Conqueror of the North. The SVP-21 is intended to fully replace the SVP-15 in 2023.
The SVP-21 was designed in early 2010, and the first tank was produced in late 2014. It was tested in 2015, and was approved, but was not actually put into use until late 2016 (October), when it was made the new standard Main Battle Tank of Andrenne.
History
Background
In 1952, upon the formation of the (New) Andrennian Royal Army, the Army immediately looked for a Main Battle Tank, so they could begin manufacturing tanks as they used to. They called upon two large companies, Nordgewis and OA, one of which was an arms manufacturer, and the other company which was a car manufacturer that had previously made vehicles for Andrenne's army. They worked well together, designing the SVP-11 (Stridsvagpanzer-Series 1, Model 1) in 1954. This Main Battle Tank was used until 1970, when The Royal Army requested a new tank was to be made to replace the SVP-11. This resulted in the SVP-12, however the Royal Army was unsatisfied with this tank, and requested that they make a new one. This led to the SVP-13, which was used until 1987, when the SVP-14 was developed to replace it. Quickly after, in 1994, NG-OA made the SVP-15, which was in designed shortly after the SVP-14. The SVP-15 is the most recent tank, and is still in use, although in late 2009, the Royal Army called again, this time for a completely new, modern tank. This resulted in the SVP-21, which had a completely different design then the Series 1 tanks. It's nicknamed "King" because of the name "Oswald", which was the first true king of Andrenne.
Development
In late 2009, the Royal Army called for a completely new, modern tank. They began to design the SVP-16, however, one engineer, Jonas Stellden designed a hull for a potential Series 2 tank, which would later become the SVP-21. Though not accepted at first, he resubmitted his design a month later, and it was accepted. They then began work on a turret, which Stellden also designed. Design continued from there, until eventually the SVP-21 became what it is today. The SVP-21 was produced in 2015, however it wasn't revealed to the public until late 2016, on October 7th.
Service
The SVP-21a1, although new, has already seen combat in the Jacksonville Civil War. Out of the 100 deployed alongside with the SVP-15 Sabels, only 11 Oswalds were lost.
Variants
- E-SVP-21 - Experimental prototype version of the SVP-21. Three were produced, and are currently in the National Military Museum of Andrenne.
- SVP-21a1 - Standard production variant. Currently seeing combat in the Jacksonville Civil War.
Extra
- The Oswald has a turret rotation speed of 360° in 6.4 seconds (electric)
