Running from 1948-1988 and then again since 2005, it's one of the most viewed TV programs on a yearly basis, if not THE most viewed on a yearly basis.. SFD is similar to Sanremo Music Festival.

SFD consists of 2 semi-finals with 10 songs each, with only top four qualifying for the final and a wildcard, or a total of 8 songs in the final round.
