WA Security Council
The World Assembly Security Council (also called the SC or the WASC) is the newer branch of the WA that addresses specific situations in nations and regions of NationStates (as opposed to the General Assembly, which writes international law). The SC was created in 2009 when an intense controversy over the introduction of Commend and Condemn proposals convinced game staff that the new categories constituted a breach of the General Assembly's Branding and Metagaming rules; the split allowed the GA to continue to function under its own established ruleset, while the SC was free to forge ahead and experiment with proposal-making independent of GA conventions. Initially only Commend and Condemn proposal types were offered under the SC; the Liberation category, which checks raiders' power to destroy regions, was added later.
The first Security Council resolution, Condemn gatesville by Omigodtheykilledkenny, was defeated in June 2009. In the following weeks Macedon would become the first region to be Condemned, and Kandarin the first nation to be Commended. The first Liberation resolution, introduced by Goobergunchia in July 2009, affected Belgium.
A fair amount of the SC's agenda in its early days concerned the region of NAZI EUROPE, with two Condemnations and a Liberation lodged against it, and a number of failed attempts to repeal all three. Although, eventually, the Liberation and both Condemnations were stricken out.
