Etymology

The name Silverfield or Silverland as the founding nation of the region was once called comes from an ancient poem about the lands first settlers. This poem has had split meanings over hundreds of years. Some have said that it was just a simple poem about a peoples need to live in peace, but be weary of others. Some say it as a poetic scripture, while the rest say that it is a prophecy to detail a great war.

"In the lands of the East were the sea and shore meet. There is a field of grass, with a silver sheen, were we'll make our home, of peace and dreams. While we may now no-longer wander, we never idly sit or slumber. The world will tremor at the feet of a warrior, but we must act and give them no quarters."

The First War of the Fox (1909-1913)

The First War had taken place across the country between 1909-1913 C.E. However there was a slight buildup to this conflict and multiple scholars have found evidence of additional police actions taken in the borderlands.

Royal Unrest

In 1901 C.E. The Peoples Party had won the elections that year and gained more the 98 seats. They appointed the influential and radical Duncan St. John as the Prime Minister. This appointment was looked down upon by the other political parties of the time, including ex-Prime Minister Ulysses Tristan of the Democratic Union. Duncan St. John was suspected of numerous charges of corruption and several accounts of Bribery. With no concrete evidence, along with a trial that found him Not Guilty, he was free to take office. He appointed his Cabinet of Ministers from his close knit group of friends and allies allowing him to effectively run the country wholly by himself. Parliament was almost broken by his consolidation of power to the point it was rendered useless in several important bills allowing for more power to the Prime Ministers Office. This caused 1/3rd of Parliament to walk out in 1904, during a debate about strengthening the Prime Ministers authority. The Royal House of St. John requested in 1904 to step down, which resulted in sever restrictions to the Royal Houses members and presumably the death of Lord Dorian St. John in 1908.

During this time, many of the first Royalist Party began to plot against the Parliament seeing that it was becoming corrupted and that the crown of the Holy Silverfield Empire must return from exile. In 1908 the current Head of House Walt, in exile, Vincent Walt, met with members of the Houses Russ and Faulkner. They plotted for the ascension of Vincent's 14 year old son, Harrison Walt, to take the reins as Crown Prince. Unknown to this was that one of the members of the meeting, Sigfreed Ichart, overheard the meeting while visiting his fiancee, Leona Russ, and proceeded to flee with her to the home of Richard Olmaus. Richard was entertaining his distant relative Nathan J. Olander and his family friend Issac Decker, when Sigfreed and Leona entered the home. After a long talk they contacted the Prime Minister. The pleas fell on deaf ears and Duncan St. John tossed the ideas of civil war to the side. Unknown until the then memories of the Sigfreed Ichart titled Saving Silverfield, the untold story of Sigfreed Ichart he was allowed stay with Richard Olmaus and was secretly married to Leona in December 18th 1908. This marriage marked the end of the Russ line when Leona renounced the name Russ and took up the last name of her husband. During this time Nathan J. Olander made strides to make sure that if war did come, that the Republic would not falter. He secretly held meetings with other councilmen and women, as well as getting the help of the then Minister of the Interior, Franklin Bell to provide information to the secret group. This would later form the workings for the National Republican Party of Silverfield.

Photo of the SRN Autumn Dawn after the water level in the harbor dropped a month after sinking

A year later, the second battleship, the SRN Autumn Dawn was anchored in the harbor for the celebration of the first day of Spring. They had been preparing for the fireworks display from the harbor. At sometime in the afternoon Royalist posing as crew infiltrated the ship and planted TNT charges on the hull. Just before nightfall at 8:12pm the charges detonated. The explosion was seen from onlookers for miles as explosions ripped multiple holes in port and starboard hulls. The Silverfield Post printed a midnight edition including a deceleration of war against Silverfield by the Royalist Forces. Duncan St. John under the increasing pressure immediately stepped down from office prompting a quick decision by Parliament to elect a new Prime Minister. Nathan J. Olander, with the support of several other Councilmen proposed that Sigfreed Ichart be the next Prime Minister, despite being an Independent. With deliberation lasting only 1 hour, Sigfreed Ichart was instated as the 9th Prime Minister of the Grand Republic of Silverfield.

Operation Black Monday

With a new cabinet instated along with him, Prime Minster Ichart started to consolidate his forces. The Heer was split down the middle on who to support and more then 1/3rd had joined the Royalist, taking with them bundles of military hardware further arming the already large rebel faction. Richard Olmaus, the new Minister of Defense, proposed consolidating the military under a Grand Marshal for the time, which the name he proposed that Heerführer Victor Vandercart, grandson of the late Oberstfeldmarschall and Prime Minister Arthur Vandercart, take the position. Within hours the young 36 year old Vandercart was sworn into his new office of Grand Marshal of the Republic Forces. The Royalist Forces had by April 12th 1909 C.E. taken control of the military base at Dresden as well as razed sever smaller towns in the countryside. The forces were under the now defected Feldmarschall Horus Russ, taking his entire command effectively giving the city to Walt and his Royalist forces.

Sporadic fighting, coined as Operation Black Monday by the Royalists, was taking place throughout the country and reports of foreign soldiers in the Royalists forces were unconfirmed by high command at the time. One of the largest opening battles took place at the city of Ternitz. Kodiak Bay Navel Base was the largest navel base in Silverfield history as well as the city having the largest dry dock at the time. Royalist forces seized the Kodiak Class Heavy Destroyer SRN Olympus and pointed its guns at the base. Shelling began at 06:03 on the 12th of April, while most were still unsure as to what was going on in the countryside. The initial half-hour of shelling killed roughly 113 military personnel as well as an additional 37 civilian personnel when a shell went wide and struck an apartment block. During this time men and women of the newly formed Navel Air Force attempted to get their Augustine-Class Biplanes into the air to attack the Olympus. 8 were destroyed in the bombardment while 2 managed to get airborne.

Hauptmann Jason Rite and his wing-man Leutnant Abrahán Fallas managed to get into the air and were able to make passes at the Olympus.

During the next 20 minutes the Royalist on the Olympus attempted to return fire on the two biplanes. Managing to hit Rite biplane causing damage, but not downing him or his wing man they continued to harass the ship with machinegun fire. During this time men from the base began to scramble into the docked ships the SRN Greisin and SRN Rotkäppchen both Punic-Class Frigates, as well as the SRN Hassenburg the first Silverland-Class Battleship. Once the Royalists noticed this they begain to move the Olympus out of the bay while attempting continue to bombard the base. The Greisin was unable to leave due to damage sustained in the shelling, and the Hassenburg was damaged, but due to its engines being cold it was not up to putting up a chase, however the Rotkäppchen despite major damage was able to leave the harbor and begin the pursuit.

Hauptmann Jason Rite, taken in 1923

For the next hour and twenty minutes, a running naval battle took place between the two ships, along with the two biplanes of the Naval Airforce. The Olympus, after taking a luck shot from the Leutnant Fallas' biplane, sank with all remaining Royalist hands at at 08:10. Military casualties were light, 148 KIA, 310 Critically Wounded, & 194 Walking Wounded, while civilian casualties were confirmed to be 428 due to the shelling and a large fire that took most of the dock district of the city. The number of Royalists was undetermined, but estimates shown that it was roughly 150-200 persons on board the Olympus by eyewitness accounts of the incident.

The official report of the 1st Battle of Ternitz came into the Minsters of Defenses office at 08:39 according to records, which was relaid to Prime Minister Ichart sometime before 09:00. At 09:30 that same day, Prime Minister made a public announcement of war against the Royalist rebels, publicly condemning the action they had taken and (at the time) numerous deaths of civilians,

"A leader's hardest task is not doing the right thing...no, my fellow Silvians, it's to know that it is the right thing. War is not something that I consider lightly. For every action, for every discussion, for every pause that I make, someones loved one will perish by the blades, by the bullets, by the bombs, of someone that he once called a fellow countryman. I will be sending the men and women that hold our country together to fight a brother, a uncle, a sister, a mother... Ladies and Gentlemen I will not sugarcoat the issue, but this is the fact. We are at war...may the Gods watch over us all."Sigfreed Ichart Excerpt from April 12th, Ichart's Public Address of War

The address spurred many of the indecisive forces to side with the Government forces over the Royalist, but the Royalists still held Dresden. By late that day, the battles stalemate with the Royalists digging in throughout the country, holding 42% of the countries inland territories. The Government forces consolidated near Ternitz in an attempt to hold the navel base and surroundings area. By historical accounts, Black Monday was a huge success for the Royalists in cementing their position, but started a downfall in general sympathy for the cause.

May Calm and the June Offensive

The government forces for the rest of April held ground, repulsing the Royalist forces from making any pushes to the coast. 1st and 2nd Battle of Enns forced the full retreat of forces under Feldmarschall Horus Russ, but not at the cost of significant supplies and men. The 7th, 8th, 43rd, 55th, 58th, and 69th Greadiers were completly wiped out, along with the 201st, 210th, and 212th Spezialeinheit Regiments, while others were almost at 50% fighting strength.

Religion

The National Religion of the Republic is know as Argentisum. A vast number of ancient Silvian deities are known under this name. The most familiar today are those the Silvians' identified with the most are called the Old Gods. Many of the Silvians' own gods remain obscure, known only by name and function, through inscriptions and texts that are often fragmentary—particularly those who belong to the archaic religion of Silverfield dating back to before it as settled by civilized colonists, the "religion of the Great Spirit Fox," perpetuated or revived over the centuries, by many still holding to the Native Silvians' archaic religion.

Argentisum

It was founded informally sometime around 1036 C.E. by Native Silvians and Settlers from the West. It wasent until January 1st 1295 C.E. as the Argentists consolidated the religion nationally by building the Argentum Pantheon in large trade city of Tristum (what is now Hassenburg) as the central place of worship. It was not until the founding of the Silverland Empire, did the tenets of Argentisum spread throughout the rest of land. The First Exilarch of Argentisum was that of the Kellic Ichart who was appointed by King Roland Vosh personnal as his religious adviser. This appointment continued until the fall of the Holy Silverland Empire in 1853 C.E. but the appointment of Exilarch is still done but only by the Clergy themselves since the beginning of the Silverfield Republic.

The Old Gods, as is commonly known as, are the Founders of the World. In the Argentisum Bible, the Argentum "In the time, before time. The god Helvarius, God of the Void, God of Nothing, Bringer of the End. Waited amongst the darkness. He was something older then before, and he sought solace in that Void, but beyond his view others of powerful nature began to grow. Created out of the nothing that created him, they rose to powerful Gods and Goddess, but like anything young they squabbled like children. They fought each other as Helvarius watched. He was delighted that they fought, for once one was left, tired and weak, he would end their life and return to the soundless nothing he adored, but what he found was not that. A God as old as Helvarius had awaken from beyond his sight. The God proclaimed its name of Jomus, the God of Neutrality and Fate, he called upon his fellow almighty beings to hold, but all but Seperes, God of Warfare, held back. He took all his power and struck Jomus, but only grazed him, who stood unflinching. It was then that the others truly began to listen and understand. Jomus proclaimed that they must all work to create, not as individuals, but as one. The First to contribute was Aodolin, Goddess of Light, the Sun, and Day, who brought forth the light of the stars to the darkness. The Second was Marais, Goddess of the Earth who created the earth. The Earth was barren and had nothing, but the Third, Seteppe, Goddess of the Seas, added the lakes and seas. The forth, Richimes, God of Forests and Animals, added animals of all kinds to the forests of this new world. The Fifth, Akilos, God of the Sky, added the wonders of the clouds and the blue sky. The Sixth and Seventh, Septis, Goddess of Weather, added to this world with the forces of wind and changing of seasons with the help of Rylia, Goddess of Anarchy, Chaos, and Change. The Eighth was that of Adriada, Goddess of the Eternal Flame pulled from herself part of her soul and gift it to Jomus to help create the universes spirit. The Ninth was that of Eositen, God/Goddess of the Home, Love, and Happiness who also gift part of their soul to Jomus as well to make sure that positive emotion was there. The Tenth was Rionus, God of Law, Order, and Honor who gift part of his soul as well, but put balance to the chaos of the new world. The Eleventh was that of Graeus, God of Darkness, the Moon, and Night, who asks for the moon to be constructed so that darkness must always exist on the planet. He also added a small piece of his soul, so that they would not forget the darkness that they all came from. The Twelfth was that of Jomus himself. With the souls of his fellow gods he crafted the first shell, but it was the Thirteenth Rorim, God of Wisdom and Knowledge who added the genius behind the eyes. It was he who first called the shell a "Human", but all accepted this term for the new creation. Rylia as well as Seperes added parts of their souls to the final form of the first Human, but it was the Fourteenth Amarouas, God of the Afterlife who added the final touch. For it was destined that the Human to grow old and die, but to go to where they could be with the Gods once more. It was then that Jomus was gave the mantel of God of Life, for if not for him there would still only be nothing."
