The Premier League of the Taeshani Football League is the top professional association football division of the Taeshani league system. It is contested by 24 teams, with the two lowest placed teams relegated to the Erste Liga and replaced by the top two teams in that division, plus two play-offs involving the next highest two and lowest two placing teams from their respective leagues deciding any other relegations. A total of 71 teams have competed in the Premier League, seventeen of which have been crowned champions. Founded in Season 1, the league was initially dominated by Atlantea Hurricanes, with early wins by various teams among a teenage years that saw the arrival of Bayern Phoenix & Laketown Rangers. As the league reached it's twenties a second Bayern team arrived with Bayern-Algaer making the city the first with multiple champions. After a back and forth between various teams the 40's and much of the 50's were dominated by Real Atlantea winning 12 of 13. Eventually their reserves ran out and Taeshan City Miners took over the domination of the league winning 4 in 7 before another relative period of parity.

The First Division used to be consistently among the most mediocre leagues affiliated to the Union of International Club Associations (UICA), with only Real Atlantea's lone semi-final appearance in the Champions' Cup, and Atlantea Hurricanes Globe Cup loss high points in international play.

Competition Format

The competition format follows the common double round-robin format. During the course of a season, which is year-long, each club plays every other club twice, once at home and once away, for a total of 46 matches. Teams receive three points for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for a loss. Teams are ranked by total points, with the highest-ranked club at the end of the season crowned champion. If points are equal between two or more clubs, the rules are:

  • If all clubs involved have played each other twice:
    • If the tie is between two clubs, then the tie is broken using the head-to-head goal difference (without the away goals rule)
    • If the tie is between more than two clubs, then the tie is broken, using the games the clubs have played against each other:
      • a) head-to-head points
      • b) head-to-head goal difference
      • c) head-to-head goals scored
  • If two legged games between all clubs involved have not been played, or the tie is not broken by the rules above, it is broken using total goal difference.
  • If the tie is still not broken, it is to be resolved by number of wins and finally alphabetical order, unless the title, an international qualification place or a relegation spot is in dispute. In these cases, number of wins is replaced as a tie-breaker by a special play-off match at a neutral ground. the neutral ground of Grand Duke's Stadium in Rumiatzi; however, this method has yet to be used.

A system of promotion and relegation exists between the Premier League and the Taeshan Erste Liga, whereby the two lowest placed teams in the Premier League are relegated to the Erste Liga, and the top two teams from the Erste Liga are promoted to the Premier League. An additional two promotions can be won as the Erste Liga third place, and the Erste Liga Fourth place play Neutral Playoff games against the Premier League 22nd and 21st place teams for promotion.

Throughout the First Division's history it has gradually changed the number of clubs in the top division multiple times.

  • 20 clubs = 1-16
  • 22 clubs = 17-19
  • 24 clubs = 20-24
  • 25 clubs = 25-30
  • 24 clubs = 31-
