The United States of Thatchertropolis (UST), commonly referred to as Thatchertropolis, is a federal republic consisting of 50 states. The 48 contiguous states and the capital, Thatchertropolis, are in central North America between two currently unoccupied buffers. The state of Shefford is the northwestern part of North America and the state of Fushigi is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific. The country also has five populated and nine unpopulated territories in the Pacific and the Caribbean. At 3.79 million square miles (9.83 million km2) in total and with around 318 million people, Thatchertropolis is considered to be a huge country when taking total area and population into account. It is one of the world's most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations, the product of large-scale immigration from many countries. The geography and climate of Thatchertropolis is also extremely diverse, and it is home to a wide variety of wildlife.

American entrepreneurs accidentally traversed through a vortex in 1813, and realized that there was no way to return to the United States of America, as the vortex appears once only every 200 years (the vortex was said to have reappeared in 2013 at first by yellow journalists, but this was confirmed to be true). They started a settlement called Thatchertropolis, and proclaimed the United States of Thatchertropolis on June 8, 1824 after they had gained control of the land there. The young republic's first president, Howard Thatcher, helped draft its constitution, which was modeled after that of the United States of America and enthusiastically adopted just one month later. The constitution grants many fundamental freedoms, including the freedom of speech, religion, assembly, and the press. It also banned slavery by any means, and provided everyone with political freedoms regardless of ethnic background or gender.

The United States of Thatchertropolis then began a major expansion effort that propelled itself eastward. The Thatchertropolitans quickly accomplished this, seeing that virtually nobody occupied the continent's lush forests. Integrating the newfound territories, however, was difficult, as some settlers were reluctant to leave their hometowns to populate the country's land. By 1840, however, the United States of Thatchertropolis extended from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean, and its economy was quite remarkable for its age. Unlike many other nations, which have flexed their muscles with war, Thatchertropolis decided to pursue economic power instead. In 1842, the efforts of U.S.T. President David Joh put Thatchertropolis on a quick road to modernization and industrialization by a massive buildup of factories centered on sustainable growth. This resulted in the country's becoming a great economic power while also preserving its environmental beauty, but that also meant economic imperialism over weaker nations, and thus critics of the United States of Thatchertropolis often dub it as the Thatchertropolitan Empire. Thatchertropolis also began to quietly build nuclear missiles as early as 1865, although none of these have been used in warfare to this day. Nuclear power is therefore used for industrial purposes in the country.

The United States of Thatchertropolis is a developed country and has some of the world's largest and strongest economies, with an estimated GDP in 2013 of $37.6532 trillion. The country has abundant natural resources in its lush forests, and its workers are extremely productive, but not the most productive in the world. Despite having a large gap in wealth distribution, the United States of Thatchertropolis remains an industrial and economic power, and it is one of the most influential and most scientifically advanced countries in the world.

"And nevermore would the portal appear"

Prior to 1813, Howard Thatcher was enjoying moderate success as an American entrepreneur of shops in New York City. While in one of the shops on February 13, 1813, he and his colleagues were going to fetch mugs of water when they discovered a small maelstrom on a wall in one of the rooms. They wondered if it was real, or if it was fake. Not the brightest choice an entrepreneur has made, we know. The band of men and women tried to touch the portal, but once they came close to it, they were being pulled in by its strong magnetic force, and nothing could stop it. Once Thatcher and all of his coworkers were sucked in, the maelstrom shrank and disappeared completely, not to appear again until 2013.

Formation

Thatcher and his friends fell out of the other end of the vortex, which was situated in dense forest in the west coast of another incarnation of North America. They found that there were gigantic reserves of iron, uranium, aluminum, coal, oil, gold, and cinnamon, and that the forests on the continent were quite pervasive and dense. Thatcher's best friend, Boris Joh, said that he had a pickaxe and a hatchet with him, and another companion, Percy LaSalle, said that he had several guns with him, and that was all they needed to start their first settlement, which they named Thatchertropolis in 1815 for Howard, because he was the one who suggested that they settle on the land.

Once their first settlement had been founded, Thatcher et. al. began to explore the forests around them. The band did not find very many dangerous or "irresistibly cute" organisms (as a woman sticking with Mr. Thatcher had written in her diary), but they did find orca whales walking around in the area.
